Ok i got 2-1000 HPS lights from a friend of a friend. I have no way of getting in touch with him since he moved. He sold me the lights and said that they were 120v, but he seemed pretty unsure since his room mate was the 1 who hooked them up. So i have had the lights for about 2 weeks now and went to plug them in today with no success. If in fact that they are 240v will it just not work or will they fire up a little. I can hear a real faint humm but not much. Only when i put my ear against the ballast. Any help would be great... Any ideas to trouble shoot would also be great... Thanks...

huh? You cant plug in a 24ov into a regular outlet, infact its inpossible, the prong is a different shape that wont fit into the standard outlet. R u testing it with the bulb or just going by noise?

Damn my room mate took the laptop so i cant upload photos... When i opened up the ballast, everything looks hooked up but there are 3 whires that are just capped comming out of the magnet not hooked up to anything. Is this normal or could that be the prob???

The wires from the plug go into a capaciter looking thing then into a box then to the magnet. Then the ones coming out of the magnet just come out and are just sitting there lol... How do i fix that and idea... Sorry kind of hard with out pics...

the green should connect to the ballast, it should have a o ring on it, and there should be a connection for it somwhere. the other two should go to the bulb socket..
