1200w will give you 30+ easily! unfortunately for your "buddy" there is only so much you can cram in to a 4x4 area.
it is possible but you will run into problems like powdery mildew and mold if you cram them in too tight. not to mention only the very top buds will be any good the rest will be fluffy shwag.
if you run the lights verticaly you may get a bigger yield but 30 oz from a 4x4 is a tall order, the most i ever got from my 1.2x1.2 tent was 22oz, a lot of that was lower buds that you avoid when rummaging through the jar for a spliff.

i know i was thinking that but my friends have done grows with him an there noobies an they have confirmed that he gets 30+ out of that sized tent. he defoliates at a certain time an tops them once the day before he flips to 12/12. i was doubtful at first as well but hes going to show me exactly how he does it an if i do i'll appoligise

How are you getting enough light thru the vegetation to achieve that weight?
How are you cooling the system?
What grow material/style?
If you are rockin' the big guns, show 'em off! I am running an entire bedroom, I would fucking love to get the same yield from a 4'x4' tent.... My highest yielder so far was around 10-11oz dry, on a Jack Herer (greenhouse seeds) under a pair of 600w hps....

this my second grow so im still learning. i have 30ltr pots, more roots bigger buds, coco- run to waste system. my room is insulated. i have a 125w extracter fan. veg my clones just under two feet.
