Why is this? And why does it have to do with dense buds? What if one did many plants and pruned, would this be the same as scrog tech?
$1200 dollar budget for 8'x4', strips or Cobs?

If you don't train for an even canopy with mid power strips, you can do a sea of green. Or use a net to make a canopy.
If you don't then you'll get one or two good colas. And everything below this will be small wispy buds
If you do train or sog. Then youll get better use of these strip lights.

Okay, with that condom you recover 75% of the energy, but can you grow a plant with the "rest" of the light? Every try to remove the heat from the light affects the total light output and would change the spectrum. If you dont want that you can only recover the heat from the LED backside.

Ok, I was just wondering is all. The web site and the owners on this site have said that 550 QB thing replaces a 1000 watt hps. 1000 watt hps grows solid buds all the way down, no scrogg needed to get solid buds unless one prefers to do that technique. Only reason I'm even bringing this up is because you mentioned scrogg was needed with the strip lighting or the buds won't be dense.

i can rewin ~80% of the produced heat power only from the backside of the led platine.
That means 60% (0,8 * 75%) of the lamp power(Vf*If) is inside the heatexchanger.
40% is flux & heat @ the frontside of the chip(LES).
I was thinking about cooling the LES
but yes - this lens would reduce light flux may be more - than it can help to increase heat production. We can`t change the high heat resistance and (s)low heat conductivity of silicone layers, but we can reach much lower temps. of these phosphored silicones also at the backside, if we suck big quantities of heat into the water. The transparency of silicone get worse with higher temp and reaches a critical point at ~150°C.
Pic.: If i switch on to drive the 50W led @ max. current - my powermeter shows 50W going down to 47W-46W if the case temp. reach ~60°C without water.
When i drive it watercooled with a low watertemp like 15°C - my powermeter shows 53,5W
The drivers are cooled as well and work @ lower Tc (also with an expected - slightly better efficiency ?)

Led and hps penetrate pretty differently.
In my experience an even canopy is better for mid range led strips
May not be '' needed'', but I find it better.
