12 on/ 6 off...Anyone try this method?

Has anyone tried changing the night time to 6 hours night thus creating an 18 hour day? This is mentioned in the medical growers bible and if it works sounds like a good way to increase crop rotation. This would turn 7 'days' into 9 'days' a week. Do they make timers for this if it does work?

So your saying 6 hours of darkness, and 12 hours light. I have heard of the other. 6 light and 12 darkness. As far as I understand it, MJ needs 12 hours of darkness (as a general rule...not counting autoflowering/genetically altered stock etc.) to trigger.

I think.....only think though.....that 12 of light and 6 dark might result in veg state in limbo?????
And the other way, 6 light and 12 dark, even if it worked this way, your "daytime" is shorter, thus less time to store light energy/chlorophyl production. Possible smaller yields???
But I see the logic in the theory of the suggestion. Crop rotation increase would be beneficial, but only as long as the benefits out weigh the loss of "daytime", as well as any other problems you create, like scheduling conflicts. and adjustments you would need to make, like feeding times being 6 hours off every "day". As well, the rotation will probably throw a wrench in YOUR schedule, as far as every so many days, you might have a "day" when you can't go in the room, because you were sleeping or at work (in effect you take away 50% of your "together time" lol). I suppose if you have lots of free time, and an occasional insomniac you could make it work.

This is all theory, and I have read about but never tried this, so I could just be talking out my ass....lol. Interesting though. Good luck if you decide to try it.

No clue where you would get a timer for that. You would need something out of the ordinary for sure. Post if you try.

i dont think your maths quite right on this one. yes it would increase the number of daytime cycles in a given span of linear time.
but overall youd be reducing exposure to the daytime cycle.
while i have heard of people using simaliar light cycles, its something to do with a rest period, if your lighting is bright enough during the daytime cycle
then a couple hours of darkness help it process and recouperate, if you have less that optimul light levels your better off with a number closer to 24

Sounds like a great experiment. You should try it out, and let us know how it turns out. Give us the results. ;)

I personally, have and always will... stick with the natural 24 hour cycle.

Only certain strains come from areas where they experience an 18 hour cycle.

Anyhow, good luck with that.

peace.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS PEOPLE.

Let me clarify. You would put the plants in flower on a normal 12/12 schedule for about 2 weeks. Once flowering is well established you would reduce the night(lights off) to 6 hours. Jorge Cervantis suggests he has heard of this but didn't have any more info other than the statement. I'm about to move to a bigger area and I will give this a shot with one plant.

So you are saying after 12/12 you switch it to 12 hours of light and then 6 of dark and then 12 of light again? I would think that would cause the plant to revert back to veg since it wouldn't be getting 12 hours of dark, because isn't it the 12 hours of dark that trigger flowering in the first place?

Yea probably doesn't work or people would be doing it and there would be timers for it. I only asked because the Medical Growes Bible mentioned it.
