12/12 right from the start?

I am considering going on a 12/12 light cycle right from the start due to some height constraints i have. Im working with a 19D x 25W X 17H grow box. I will be using some bag seed and a 17 watt flourecent grow light along with 2 23 watt cfls. Im just wondering if anyone has done this and if they had any suggestions (pot size? how many plants can i fit in this space? how much can i yeild from a plant? how tall will they get? how long will it take?). I know a lot depends on the strain but any feed back would be helpful. Thanks

Are these measurements in inches? If so I don't really think you'll be able to do much of anything...

Well, good luck. I would also worry about the temp getting too hot in such a small area though. And your pots are going to take up some of the height as well.

I have no experience going 12/12 from seed. IMO your options are autoflower 18/6 from seed or clone 12/12 from rooting. Even then, the height restriction is crazy. Remember the bulbs take away from height so 17-(2/3 lighting)-(4-5pot size) even on the safe side that is around 11/12 inches assuming the plants can touch the bulbs otherwise minus another few inches for heat. Theoretically you can easily grow 8 inch tall plants but they will yield like a gram or two dry at very best. In the end, ask yourself is it worth the risk for less than a few eights every 3 months? The only reason someone grows in something that small is they have a lot to hide and that tends to mean their living situation is not yet at the point where growing would be a smart thing. I bought for 11 years until I could afford a house to grow in. Anyway, if you try it good luck and post some pics of your box so people can give accurate advise on what to build. ;)

yeah i plan on using 2 computer fans, 1 for exhaust and 1 for intake. I might even double that but im not sure yet. ill post picks of the box, im in the process of building it right now. im going to try to clone one of the females in my first crop and from there ill scog or maybe get a small hydro set up. we'll see, i dont want to get to far ahead of my self... can you autoflower on an 18/6 light cycle, ive only heard of doing it on a 12/12?

nah not cooked plants, ive made 150w hps setups with 17 inches of height with no heat problems. Is that a pc? just make sure for the lighting you got there you have at least to pc fans, intake and out. With that lighting thow youd have a pretty shitty yeild, like maby a 1/4 of fluff

its a stealth grow and thats the only space i have for the box, trust me if i could build an entire room i would but i dont have the space.
mister micro, how many cfls/watts would you recomend then?

for anything comendable, ehh either 2 45wers and one 26wer, given your space, or one 50 hps with a cool tube.

If you grow 12/12 right from the start you will skip the most important root development stage and go right into flowering.
You will be the best selling author of the book:
"How to grow a Joint"

i would love to use hps but they can be expensive, do you know where i could get a good hps light for cheap? obvioulsy i only need it to handle 50 watts. if not then ill use your recommended cfls.

i doubted 12/12 could work but read this; International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - 12/12 From Seed: A Different Way To Grow
Obviously im new at growing, maybes its bs, tell me what you think
Nice detailed post on that link. Yes I am one of those critics. Regaurdless of how tall you want your plant to grow, the roots must be grown. If your plant is rooting the where is it getting the energy for flowering? Nitrogen is needed to establish roots and green growth, but in flowering it is cut almost completely out.
I personaly think this woud be a waste of time.
I hope it works out for you though

you can buy a 70W HPS security light from Lowes for about $28. They don't throw much heat but you'd have to worry about space for sure. I got 4 of them along with 2 100W MH lights all set up with 2 100W equivalent flouos on the sides. Of course I have a whole room in the cellar dedicated to only this project and still need to get the mylar to make up a shield. You should definately cover the entire are of your brow box with that too will help you eek out more useable light for sure.

im really torn here, maybe ill do a regular grow with some LST. I dont know. i think the only answer is to try both ways. Now im think of doing a regular grow and cloneing a female once it flowers and then go 12/12 with the clones as the mother flowers.

just get two 42 watt cfl's from wal-mart. The hps lights from lowes are too big for your growing dimensions.
