I am going to attempt my first indoor grow soon in a spare closet (2' width x 3' length x 5.5' tall). I have grown outdoors with ok results but I have moved and no longer have a good private outdoor area. First off I want to thank the mods and growers on this site because I have learned alot about indoor growing and would not have attempted it without this site. Thanks guys!!! :joint:

I just purchased a 105W Super Bright CFL - 6,700 Lumens - Color Temp 6,500K. http://www.topbulb.com/find/Product_Description.asp_Q_intProductID_E_49655
I have attached pics of the bulb and the fixture I have. The bulb is freakin huge (about 12 inches long) and extends way out of the reflector. I doubt the reflector is doing any good because the bulb is sticking so far out. The fixture is rated for 150W (Type A) bulb. I am hoping that someone has experience with this kind of light. I have a couple of questions and hope someone can help.
1. The bulb hums and kind of flickers when it is on. I dont know if this is a sign that I need a higher wattage socket.
2. Any ideas of what kind of reflector I could purchase or should I make one myself.

Once I get this up and running I am going to set up a grow log and post it on this site so I can give something back to the community. All I am waiting for are some bag seeds to sprout. I also purchased a mixed bag from bcseedking.com. I also purchased a flowering light (2700K) from the same site http://www.topbulb.com/find/Product_Description.asp_Q_intProductID_E_51530. Any comments or questions would be much appreciated. :peace:

kieahtoka: I may use some smaller CFL's on the side, but that is going to be my main light on top. Thanks for the info on the other site. That bulb is cheaper than the one I got.

abudsmoker: I have multiple fans that I am going to use to control temps.

Check out Sunleaves.com !! They have 125w Vitalume CFL's....the 6400K puts out 10,500 lumens and the 2700K puts out 9,000 lumens for $50 each!! They ALSO have a 200w 6400k w/ 13,000 lumens AND a 300w 6400K w/ 18,000 lumens. They even sell the reflector for the 125w for $80 and it measures 21 x 14 1/2 x 9 1/2. Accessdiscounts.com has a 200w Sunblaster 6400K and 2700K CFL with 18,000 lumens too ($76 each)! One more thing for my fellow growers....Littlegreenhouse.com sells the Mogul Socket Adapter ($12) for the 125w and up bulbs. In the States, the standard/medium bulb socket is an E26 and NOT an E39/40. You screw the large CFL's into this adapter then screw the other adapter end (which is an E26) into a standard medium socket.....OR just buy the Prewired Mogul Socket ($17) w/ a 8ft cord and screw the bulb right into that and then you can go straight into the outlet from there. If you just get a Sunleaves Vitalume 125w... 4 of the 6400K puts out the same lumens as a 400w MH and 6 of the 2700K equals the same lumens as a 400w HPS. Or just buy 3 6400K and 4 2700K from Accessdiscounts.com to get the same amount a lumens as those Sunleaves Vitalume's. I've read literally hundreds of threads and have not yet came across ANYONE with this info. Most people want to buy ALL these damn 42 watt bulbs!! Any one of these set ups will save money over an HID without all the heat. You will get some heat from these bulbs, so ventilation is still a key issue, but you won't have the Ghetto Bird flying over head picking you up on infra red. I've seen people with awesome results with 8 to 10 42w CFL's ( 336w to 420w total) but with maybe 16,000 to 20,000 lumens total. But if you don't have the over head space for 15 inches (bulb + 3 inches) then these won't work for you unless you are clever enough to hang them horizontally without a fixture/reflector. Peace Out......hope this helps you and some others out there!!

using 30 watters and 27 watters for flowering and veg respectively.<sig has my grow link>. got some 4 ft t12 to suppliment.. Keep your bulbs within 4 inches of the top and your fine no worries on bulb/type/brand/maker/watts. If it works for you go with it.. I beat my head on the desk reading and reading what works what doesnt and who is right and wrong.. basically there all right.. if its the right temp scale your golden... for less lums or coverage cut down the square footage and use reflection.. keep us updated with pics..
