Isn't 100k pot still a resistor? Aren't all pot?

yes and you can use single or switchable resistors as well, see jorge's cheap and cheerful citizen thread for an example

You could use PWM if you really wanted to.. I personally just get the A and dim rarely.

I've been buying b drivers and putting 100k pots. So turned all way up is not the same as if there was no pot?
