1000w vs. 600w or anything else

Was wondering if a 1000w would grow bigger buds and produce overall growth compared to a 600w or less? Obviously yes I know but why? Is the only advantage of a bigger hid lamp is coverage area? Or does the sheer amount of lumen output encourage more growth some way, and able to penetrate foliage better? I only have 3 plants under a single 1000w HPS and am trying to get the biggest yeild possible but someone told me I could go down to a 400-600 watt and still have the same results, I called him a dumbass, is he somehow right?

he might not be a total dumbass.. you can get a 600 closer.

A 600 is more efficient in lumens per watt. But a 1000 still has more total lumens.

You'd need an alternate reality machine to be sure. But good educated guesses become possible with a lot of experimenting.

Sadly I've neither.

Sounds from my research like you get get both deeper penetration and a bigger footprint when you go from 600 to 1000. But if you're not using the extra area or don't have tall enough plants it might not matter as much.

I think some people need to review the chart a little closer, or at least pay attention to what they are reading.... Overall the lumens don't mean anything if you can't get it to the optimal distance. For instance, I can easily get a 600w to 8" from my canopy running at almost 66K lumens. Now take a look at the 1000w with only 64K and change at 10". Might just be me, but looks like the only difference (running bulb at optimal distance) is the cost of running the light, plus the loss of a few lumens.. Peace!!

Also wanted to mention the highest distance for the 600w compared to the 1000w (at the same distance). At 29" you get just over 5k with the 600w and 7.6k with the 1000w. Aside from having a bigger spread of light, I still think you're worse off, as it will cost almost double for running the light and only gained half the amount of extra lumens. Imo, better to run 2 600w's even at 29", but again, that is just how I see it. Peace!
