Just wondering if it's a little over kill to put sprouted seedlings under a 1000w MH? the light can be put up to 8 feet above the plant so iono if that would be good or bad.

no way!

get a 125W CFL or similar for your seedlings. Trust me. Too close with the MH and you burn them, too far away and they stretch up. Get a CFL and put that sucker as close as you can, within 6" maximum distance, and run it 24/0!

Senseless brah unless you just have $ to give to the electric company. When I start some new seeds, I just use a 200 watts of HO t-5's and @ about 1 ft. above the lings' they get great lumens for their age, it keeps the temps almost perfecto.I run this for 24/7, until the 3rd week, then introduce a little darkness.Hold on to your coin.I mean yes, you totally could, but it just brings to many unnecessary dynamics into the mix..........

i dont use mh either its my umderstanding that t5 is way betterand cheaper to run. i use t 12 for all my veggin and do just fine, sunk my dough into flower 3 1000w hps. lot of growers on here use flouro or cfl.gonna switch to t5 little by little but they r expensive so it takes time
