All Comments are Welcome.

This is my second grow. The first grow, which I didn't post because it was more of a setup grow, entailed the following. Growing 5 different strains, picking a mother, setting up an additional veg room, and various changes to the grow room to make it work better. Now that I feel more confident and have achieved some success, I am posting the 2nd grow.

I will be posting more pictures soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------
SETUP:
- 9x9x8 room with 2 windows.
- 1000 Watt convertible Metal Halide/HPS (High Pressure Sodium). Enclosed reflector with 6 inch ducting hookups. Hanging on steel wire+pressure slider locking system. Which seems to work quite well and makes adjusting the light fast and easy.
- 1 T5 4x4 20k lumen grow light. (For the veg/mother tent).
- 2 180cfm (not exact) in line duct fans.
- 1 DIY constructed 6 inch carbon filter. I will make another thread for this one, as it is quite unique and works pretty good. Cost was less than $50, and it has features that other DIY carbon filter's lack, such as 2 layers of carbon filters and 1 layer of activated carbon meshed between them. The entire setup is easily replaceable, so you can pull it apart, tear off the old filters, add new ones, add new activated carbon and put it back together quite easily.
- 1 Oscillating fan.
- 1 Small regular fan.
- 2 Digital timers. (I heard horror stories but once I figured them out, I love them. Accurate. I can walk in the room seconds before the lights turn on.)
- Lots of duct tape.
- Lots of 6 inch ducting.
- 12 Ten gallon Smart Pots. 12 pans.
- (Soon) 12 Five gallon Smart Pots. 12 pans.
- Lots of aluminum foil, usually the 18inch variety. Always use the dull side, you don't want to create hot spots. (At least this is what I've heard)
- 1 8000 BTU air conditioner for room temperature control.
- 1 PH meter (Milwaukee, it was the cheapest digital one they had, about $40). I cannot stress how important a PH meter is, and yet how little I have invested in something that really gives me an idea of what the PH of the water/nutes I am about to give my plants is.
- 2 eye droppers. Almost an afterthought now, but I don't know how I could PH balance anything without these things!
- PH Up and Down. Also PH 7.0 solution for meter calibration.
- 1 Shot glass measuring cup. Has many different measurements, also very crucial, small enough, accurate enough, easy to clean, only draw back is that it doesn't pour too well.
- About 10 1/2inch 4 foot (or perhaps they are 5 foot, they were standard at the local hardware store) PVC piping.
- 8 total 3 way 1/2inch pvc connectors to make a square. These are the corner pieces.
- 4 total 1/2inch pvc T bone type connectors for cross support of the light.
- 1 roll of large black plastic tarp, something you find in the painters section of a store. This is the outside of the veg tent.
- 1 large tarp, probably 10x10. Black on one side, Silver on the other. This and a rope are what divide the room to ensure no light gets between either side of the room. 1 part for flowering, one for the veg tent.
- 1 Humidifier. It has an auto-set feature and programmable humidity control. I can set it to a specific humidity and the fan kicks on to achieve that humidity, turns off when it is achieved. According to an external humidity sensor it is accurate to within 2% relative humidity.

I use Fox Farms products almost exclusively. It was recommended by the local grow show, so of course I was hesitant. Little by little I have bought more and more of their products and not been disappointed.

Fox Farms Organic Potting Soil.
Fox Farms Nutrients -
Big Bloom
Grow Big
Tiger Bloom
Sledgehammer (Flushing)
Kangaroots
Microbrew (both promote root growth and stimulate a good root/soil balance)

At this time I do not use the Soluble Granular Fertilizers that Fox Farms makes such as Open Sesame, Cha Ching, and Beastie Bloomz, however it is on the list and most likely the next purchase.

I stick to the Fox Farms feeding schedule/chart. Which may be found here.
http://foxfarmfertilizer.com/feedingfox.html
With the exception of usin the Kangaroots and Microbrew more often than recommended, but at small doses like the feeding chart recommends.

Current Crop.

9 White Rhino's in 10 gallon containers rolled down using about 4 gallons of dirt.
7 White Rhino's in 5 gallon containers rolled down about 1/5th of the way, 4 gallons of dirt.
1000W Metal Halide.

The larger plants, under the more direct light, are 3 weeks old, from clones that are about 2-1/2 weeks.
Smaller plants just potted 2 days ago, from clones that were about 3 weeks old.

Flowering will begin soon and the smaller plants will go back under the T5 for additional veg time. Really wish I had a dedicated veg room with a 1000W MH, but for right now its the conversion bulb. I'll switch over to my 1000W HPS bulb and goto 12/12.

Just took some pictures then watered and hitting with Azamax. I also enjoy lady bugs. I take a preventative approach to unwanted pests.

Seeing some definite growth from the 7 white rhino's that were just transplanted into 5 gallon smart pots.

The 9 white rhino's in 10 gallon smart pots are getting very bushy now. Getting close to flowering.

looks good man but something is up with the lil ones - id guess their rooting system is quite weak, perhaps the soil is too thick and oxygen not getting at the roots, or perhaps it is from low light, I grow with pretty much the same nutrients and soil with my soil grows and yours just look inordinately weak as far as girth overall size, I do realize they are just young clones but this looks like a common thing I see when I go to help my friends grow and it usually breaks down to lack of oxygen to the roots(soil not porous enough), or lack of root growth due to bugs, or maybe even over watering, by spraying them your also giving the rooting system less desire to grow and seek out water.

It could be a number of things but let me assure you something is not right here and it makes me think its the rooting system, I bet if you tried to uproot one it would only take a minor tug to break free. When you harvest the last bunch were you able to pull the entire rootball out of the pot and carry it in one piece while you held it by the stalk?

The clones that were just transplanted are fine. I always get some dying leaves on the lower stalk, some people prefer to clip these before transplanting. I give them a few extra days. Actually I have noticed quite a bit of growth from the newly transplanted clones and will be doing some pruning soon. I'll get some new pictures up so you can see these babies bloom. Also I took pics right before watering, they perk up nicely after a good watering...

And previous crop the rootball was the entire container, looked good to me. Roots everywhere. Yes you could carry the rootball structure in one piece held by the stalk. Look for pics in my next update. These were transplanted directly from a cloner.

Things are going well, 9 white rhinos are on Grow Big. They are exploding and really filling out their pots. The 7 smaller 3 weeks behind white rhino's are really digging in and growing fast.

Noticed my in line fan attached to the 1000w light is starting slowly and making weird sounds. Its under warranty, I'll be returning that soon for a replacement. The smaller fan seems to do fine for the light, but I would like to get a more powerful fan for the Carbon Scrubber. It works but it seems under powered.

Replaced the 6 inch inline fan attached to the light, new fan is running fine, old fan under warranty.

The 9 large white rhino's seem to be really getting big. There is a noticeable difference in pictures from just 2 or 4 days ago.

Purchased the Fox Farm solubles
Open Sesame
Beastie Bloomz
Cha Ching

Starting with Open Sesame on the next feeding along with the other nutes according to the FoxFarm feeding schedule.

Nice tight branching. Indicas? I'm switching to OG Kush and Indicas next crop. I want to flower 10" plants, keep em short with one or two colas each.
Quoting from Nirvana, the strain I have is similar, mostly indica, flowers in 7-8 weeks. Grows bushy like a christmas tree with lots of tops and also not a very tall plant. 3 feet to 4 feet max.

----
White Rhino is a powerful F1 hybrid of White Widow and a curiously strong North American indica strain. White Rhino could have medicinal applications because of its high T.H.C. content. The taste of this smoke is hashy and slightly harsh, a good bong smoke. The American father of the Rhino is more indica than the White Widow father, creating a denser and somewhat shorter plant. The buzz is stoney and comes on hard.

Plant type: Best suitable for indoor growing.
Plant height: Short- Mostly Indica
Stoned or high?: Stoned- Indica Body Buzz
THC level: Strong 15-20%
Flowering Weeks: 8
Yield (Sea of Green on one m2) : 400/500
Harvest Month: 10
Grow difficulty: Moderate

Height Short
Yield Sog High
Flowering Period weeks 8 (8-10)
Thc Percentage Null (15-20)
Type Mostly Indica
Harvesting Month 10 (9-10)
Seed Bank Nirvana Seeds
Climate Indoor
Feminized Marijuana Seeds No
Effect Stoned
Difficulty Normal
White Strain Yes

Hi, can i ask you how much in kg of activated carbon it took to fill your carbon filter, and it looks a cracker, and is the activated carbon that is 3mm granules for aquaria on ebay any good to fill it, as i made one too, 600mm long, the inside pipe is 700mm long, an internal 6" plastic ribbed sewer pipe on the inside with 9" plastic ribbed sewer pipe on the outside with slots cut in for it to breathe with an angle grinder i placed lots of 75mm drywall screws through the outside pipe until it pierced and held the inside pipe 1.5" away and did this all over, (when you look through the inner pipe you can see all the screws sticking in from the outside, i wouldnt put my hand in there black drywalls have razor sharp points,), until they were firmly held together i then used sillicon to stick a metal quality street sweet tin lid to the bottom end to seal the bottom and i used an electric blanket that i bought and never used to act as a filter cover inside and out and cut a circle with the left over and stitched it all together to make a sock to stop the carbon from falling through the slots i cut, i used doubled up end to end cable ties to make them long enough to secure it to the pipe, but how much carbon shall i buy it is about £25 for 10kg will this be enough to fill the 600mm long 1.5 inch air gap in the pipes? or will i only need 5kg i am puzzled. as i bought the carbon filters locally from a shop already assembled that i used before and when they got smelly i fitted a new one and chucked the old one in the bin without thinking to burst it open and look at the carbon as i didnt want dirty smelly carbon getting the house dirty.

Took about 5kg (about 10 pounds) of activated carbon charcoal to fill the filter. As far as I am concerned, the greater surface area the more change the carbon will trap the odors you wish to mask. So usually smaller pieces are going to work better. I would get th 10kg's then you will have more then enough, as well as supplies to refill your carbon filter next time around.

Instead of using a sock or a piece of cloth to contain the carbon, I used carbon filter screen found in the filter section of your local hardware store. The filters are mostly to absorb pet odors. I think the filter cost 10$ but can be cut down and used twice or to make 2 separate filters.

Took pictures and then watered.

9 White Rhino's in the middle are getting open sesame (finally got the solubles), grow big, cal mag, kangaroots.

The 7 white rhino's on the outside are going into the veg tent soon when I switch to flower. They are on Grow big, big bloom, cal mag, kangaroots and microbrew.

Switching to flower in about 2 days.

How about some comments? Seriously lacking in the comments on this thread, hoping more people like what they see!

Looks good so far, and nice setup, I'm jealous. I like the carbon filter diy, might have to make one myself soon.

You quoted the Nirvana specs, so does that mean this is the Nirvana White Rhino that you're growing, or did you get clones from elsewhere? I'm growing one GHS White Rhino currently, just switched to 12/12, I'm curious to see how it compares to the Nirvana version.

I got clones from a local shop, I did shop around and could not confirm the original genetics other than this being a true White Rhino strain. I believe it is the North American white rhino strain, its more compact. The Description from Nirvana most accurately reflects that of my plants. I took the best White Rhino out of the 5 I was growing, and made that the mother. It has been cloned over 60 times and I have seen the results at friends houses and everything looks good to me. Always full lush canopy, big hefty stalk, short and compact but plenty of tight branching.

Please try out the DIY Carbon Filter and let me know if you have problems with the instructions. I know the pics may be lacking, but I believe the instructions are 100%. If you have problems let me know, I only made one and I really like how it turned out. It looks professional to me and works great. Also the cost was very small, under $50 I would say. Re-usable by changing the Carbon Filter screens and the Activated Carbon Charcoal. With just 2 steps. I am very proud of my DIY Carbon Filter and hope that you have as much success as I have.

If you have any upgrades I would love to see. If you simply do exactly as I have done, I still want to see that too. And as I said, I am more than willing to help you rebuild what I have done, I believe it is superior to every other DIY Carbon Filter that I have seen. Thank you.
