I'm a newbie and was suffering from a 30% germination rate using the old wet a paper towel method. I got in 10 Swiss Cheese beans from Nirvana and decided to follow some advice on germination I found here on RIU.

I pre-soaked them for 4hrs in RO H2O and then put in wet paper towels in a germination dome that was placed on a mat heater.

LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER ALL 10 HAD POPPED AND HAD ABOUT A 1/4" SHOWING!!!

I will NEVER use any other method!!!

I do the same thing. Only i use two plates for the same effect
Sometimes you can get a batch of beans that wont pop at all

yes well be carefull using heated domes can cook your beans. when you boil hemp seeds they"pop" and the radicle shows, but their dead. i just stick them in damp seedling compost, and have no problems.

Nog - I made sure to insulate between the mat & dome by putting a hand towel in between. I also checked the temp (by touch/feel) regularly for the 1st few hours. I have already torched a few seeds and adding the towel seemed to keep it in the proper temp range.

i've germinated hundreds of seeds and never used a paper towel. throw them in a cup with some water, put them in the dark for a few days and taaa daaaaa!

i use the paper towel, ro water, and a small plate and it works beutiful dont even have to cover them they just need to be in the dark not only the highest germination rate for me but also the best results possible for popping out of the soil my latest batch all 20 popped through the soil.
