I draw the line at area of attack weapons being banned for civilian ownership. I consider an assault rifle an area attack weapon along with grenades, mines, nuclear weapons, etc.
Semi-automatic rifles and handguns are what I consider protected under the 2nd amendment.

There are 2 parts to this. I would say that any type of restriction on the purchase of legal firearms is going to have very little to do with someone obtaining one illegally. So I dont think that it will help to control crime.
That being said, violent felons should not be able to obtain weapons so I am not against a background check given that it is free, quick and reliable.

It's not just the fact that I have spent time in Japan. It's the dozens of generals and diplomats who all agreed that there was no good reason to drop the nukes against an enemy who was beaten and wanted to surrender. Also, the red army was poised to invade Japan and Truman just couldn't stand those commies.
Hiroshima and nagasaki were the opening act for the cold war. Your subjective appeals to men lost in battle just come off as bullshit, especially to me, I have seen guys like your uncle or who ever you say you lost.
