I am moving back home and I am going to have a 10x10 room in which I want to grow. I have only grown one plant in dirt before, but for this I am going the hydro route. It also has a closet that I was thinking about turning into a veg room. I have a source for as many good clones as I need. I just need help on what I need to start this out. I have a 400w switchable mh/hps light and some flouros, but other than that I need a full set up. Also I dont want to spend a whole lot but I also don't want this to fall apart. Does anybody have any suggestions and/or approximate costs and yeilds of running a 10x10 grow room.

you'll need a lot of money.
Why? He's already got lighting, which is easily the most expensive part. The second most expensive part would be nutes, which, depending on where and what you buy, might be as little as $20US.

VM, with the lighting you have and the space you have to work with it shouldn't cost too much money to get up and running, assuming you have inexpensive or free access to clones or seeds. Take a look in the DYI section of the GrowFAQ here - there's tons of great info about hydroponics on the cheap. I'd recommend a deep water culture setup; they're easy to assemble from bits and pieces found commonly and cheaply at your local Wally. I'd wager you can be up and running for around $100US. Veg your girls with 6500k-spectrum CFLs, flower with that HID light you already have. Probably the only real hurdle you'll have to overcome is dividing your 10x10 space into a veg/cloning area and a flowering area, but if I've learned anything from my growing experience it's that stoners and growers are quite ingenuitive when it comes to where and how they grow. I'm sure you'll come up with something.

And hey, don't forget to post before, during, and after pics! I love seeing other people's grow-room solutions. :blsmoke:

you can grow for cheap, but doing it right will take a couple grand. don't forget about ventilation, co2, maybe some ozone, timers/thermostats, air conditioning/heating, dehumidifier, maybe a reverse osmosis water thingy, reptile/ultraviolet lights, lots of miscellaneous stuff. 400w will be good for 5-6 plants. you might want to expand later on. you should def go deep water culture in some 5 gallon buckets for 5-6 plants. you'll need some serious air pump action if you want great results.

yea, I just finished building my 4 x 9 grow room from scratch, there will be alot of little incidental expenses. If you can use that closet for your mothers, it'll save you the cost of having to frame up and light proof a small part of your room, but I'd say do whatever you can afford and experiment until you have the cash put together and have the knowledge to be efficient and cost effective about it. Like UserFriendly said, don't forget about ventilation, and some kind of ozone/charcoal air filtration, I'd feel horrible if my parents house got busted because the neighbors smelled it.

yeah i figure I will need one or two more lights and I think we have decided to go sog. My partener came across some good supplys. Is there any good plans around for a homemade carbon scrubber, and if I had to buy one how much would it cost about. And if we ventilated it into the attic without a carbon scrubber would the smell still get out? I think we will styart small and work our way up because we dont have a whole lot of money. I watched a video from the faq section and that was a pretty crazy setup but all the stuff he bought didnt seem too expensive. One more noob question.. how long will it take clones to complete a sog setup start to finish for a mostly indica strain?

I will definatly post pictures of my setup so you guys can critique it and tell me what I need to tweak. Is this site overgrow revamped? or has it been around beforte that? I used to belong to that site for my first little closet grow.

My grow room is roughly 8 feet by 8 feet by 11 feet tall.I built my own aero setup from scratch for 28 plants my total cost with used equiptment was around $1100 but I still need about 500 bucks worth of more stuff to be right.Id say in a 10 x 10 room depending how much you wanna grow you sound like your saying you want to use it all you have 1 400 watt light and will neeed 5 or 6 more new for cheapy hps maybe $170 each bulbs about $40 a piece, co2 generator about $400-500 new about 285-350 used.2 4x8 tables with drains hoses res hydroton, rockwool and what not $500.Exhaust fans 2 about $285 each.Oscalating fans 2 or 3 $25 a piec so 75 bucks.Nutes $150-200 bucks to grow this area.Air pumps for res about $25.Miscellaneous hangers and what not about $50.Timers about $85.Pumps about $250.Some kind of mh setup so either add $75 to lights a piece for switchable or $90 a piece for conversion bulbs x 5 or 6.propane tanks 3 a month at $20 a piece so $60 a month.Mylar $200.Well thats a rough rundown for the room you want so whats that some place around 4 grand to start.Oh dont forget air scrubbers for this much grow you ll need a few at $200 a pop.

There's 3 core components of any competent continuous output op; a clonebox, a mother plant veg area and a flowering area.

The sizes of each area will vary depending upon the style of growing. If you need to keep plant counts down, you might need to veg and prune your few plants repeatedly to make each of them bush out a lot before flowering, making a nice yield out of relatively few rootballs.

If plant numbers are not a concern, use the SoG method to make max yield and bud size/density out of available lighted space at the expense of a larger number of small plants.

SoG ops need little space for mothers and clones, about 10-20% of total op floorspace. Other styles will need more space for vegging, where the veg area is close to the same size as the flowering area's floorspace.

My friend has most of the hydro supplies and I have one light and fans and stuff I have a few of those, I dont think we are going to use the whole 10 x 10 space, well probably just enclose it enough so that we only need 2 or 3 400w lights. Probably start out smaller and if its succesful think about more space. the biggest expense will be the carbon scrubber and the 2 lights.

Welcome to the forum. I wouldn't suggestthe 400 watt lights. I would suggest either 600 watt lights or t-5's. 600 watt hid's put out 90,000 lumens. 400 watt about 43,000 lumens. 50% more energy 100% more light. I look at Jorge's book again yesterday just to try and make sure I had read it right the first six times and I had remembered correctly. He does explain why three 600 watt light placed properly is better than 2-1000 watt light placed properly. VV

more is better we like you get the most amount of light possible but you will have a heat issue very fast, dont forget about this end before you get all geared up
