1 seed of 4 did not sprout yet . others have sprouted . normal?

I got 2 pineapple chunk and 2 cookies kush growing, 1 of the pineapple chunk seeds has yet to sprout but all the others are sprouted. my light was like 3+ ft away from the pots so i lowered that to around 2 ft and watered them again as well as the slow seed.

is this normal? I hope it pops up in a few days atleast.

Use a tooth brush and move the soil out of the way till you find her. I’ve had issues in the past where the seed refuses to split open enough and she dies in the pod because she can’t break free. If this is the case grab some tweezers and help her out but be gentle

will do , i’ll give her another day before i check the soil for her .

I found if it turns dark and has t split its to late. But i do dig them out gently and have gad to crack quite a few with my teeth. Its risky buisness though. To hard and smash. Ive heard of people lightly sanding it. Idk how they hold it for that

Yeah, that’s why I use tweezers, if you can squeeze just enough most times she’ll pop out still curled. Wasted my fair share of plants getting the hang of it, luckily though my very first grow I didn’t recognize a male from female so I’ve got a few thousand gsc x crit mass seeds kickin around

Before even thinking of digging it up we need to know how long ago you planted it. What temperature the area it's in has been kept? If it's been less than a week, just leave it alone. Some seeds take longer than others to break ground. Digging up a seed is a last resort in my opinion. Too many newer growers get impatient and dig them up after 4-5 days to see what's wrong. Just relax and see what happens. You're not a commercial grow with a timeline to flip plants, if one is a few days behind it won't hurt it or the rest of the grow. The sandpaper trick is great for seeds with tough shells but is rarely needed and you usually know what genetics need help from the breeder. I'll do it for certain seeds from Useful Seeds strains as some of his seeds have shown they can be tough to crack and it helps. The less you handle a seed in it's embryo stage the better off you are.

Well in most instances I agree with you there’s also much to be said when purchasing new strains. Some shits expensive so sometimes you gotta give nature a helping hand instead of letting it die right in front of you. And honestly no breeders gonna list their strain as “requires a little help to break ground after germination” the best you ever see is 80% germination guaranteed now give us 250 for 25 seeds

Ok, well if you look on the Useful Seeds thread here you'll see Useful himself discussing which beans coming out that have harder shell cases that would benefit from a sandpaper scrub but since you know everything then....I've also heard either Duke Diamond or Doc D talking about it before but I can't remember which one as I get the names screwed up in my head. Beans having thick cases isn't a bad thing it's just genetics and a good breeder would tell you up front to give you the best chance of success. Welcome to RIU by the way

temps range from 70 to 77f. 50-55% humidity . planted them about 5 days ago

70 is on the cool side for germinating, not terrible but not ideal either. Try to keep your temps up around 75-80 and the humidity is fine. A little higher would be great, but 55% is fine. Depending on the age of the seeds and strain, media temps and other factors I've had seeds take 7-9 days to germ in soil that were totally healthy. Having them in a warmer area and a more humid environment with ideal moisture conditions usually gets me a 2-3 germination but I don't stress until a week has gone by and even then I'll give it a day or two before lightly digging it out to check it. Hope it works out for you. Try warming things up a bit and make sure they are properly being watered. You'll be fine.

problem is i don’t really have enough control to change the temp. it’s just what it ends up being with this portable ac maxed out in the room blowing towards the tent , with all the lights on. how would you recommend adding heat?

The easiest way is with a heating mat and thermostat for seed germination. If budget or access to a store is an issue sometimes putting a small space heater in the room helps. If you're going to be growing with LEDs you're going to want to have temps in your tent in the high 70s low 80s as led lighting tends to do better with higher temps. You can experiment with the speed of the AC or turning the AC down. Do you have an extraction fan in the tent? Adjusting the speed of the extraction fan to slow down some, within reason can also help keep more heat in the tent as well as humidity.

bad update - gave her a couple more days but checked the tent and the others have grown 2 little leafies each but again, no sprout on pineapple chunk #2 pot. so I did some digging and went a solid inch in the dirt and couldn’t find jack shit … so i have no idea what happened but i’ve planted another seed.. hopefully i don’t randomly get 2 seeds sprouted in a week lol
