Nah the CFL's are cheap, running central air at 68 to keep the whole house that temp is expensive in california : ) thanks
But yeah the rates during summer here are outrageous. I just run the central air, a pool pump, the CFLs and a few computers and yeah 400-600 $ a month lights.

Yeah but i keep it to a minimum, but still the bill is high as hell, i think they jack up the rates during summer because they know we need our AC haha. I'm gonna run some jumper cables to my pole out back pretty soon
Wow! thanks for all this help!

Is this Fair? i thought we should be charge for how much we use of our electricity! instead of if you go over 500 kwh now you pay 10 cent per kwh more?, the more i use the more expensive per watt it gets! we should be charged the same per watt if we use more we pay more (but not per watt!) :leaf:

A guy I work with got a bill for $2,013.35. He lives in a two bedroom townhouse. Which he moved into 4 weeks ago. He's not growing either.

Are you sure your bill is correct?

i dealt with something similar to this in the southeast US...

you might want to check your electric company for different billing plans...

the default plan, that you get when you sign up is usually a tiered, variable rate...

you know about the tiers... but there is also a peak season (summer) where all the tiered rates go up... where i live, it goes from $.05/KWhr in the winter to over $.12 in the summer...

i changed my billing plan to one more suitable for high-useage... i pay a higher rate to be connected to the grid.. (based on previous useage) - then i pay a fixed $.05c per KWhr for as much power as i need... it comes out to about $.08 or $.09/KWhr after i pay for everything... (taxes, street light fee, other BS)

with the old plan i hit $900 one month (about triple my normal bill), then i got wise and called them - just to see what they would do... they didnt give a shit - they just wanted their money. then i asked about other plans, and they told me if i had the one i have now it would have only been $350 or some shit...

anyways, call them and see if you are on the "stupid plan"...

just my $.02 / KWhr ;-)

Run your lights at night not during the day. The cost drops dramatically after 7:00pm. This will help especially when we get closer to winter, the lights running at night will help heat your house.
Heat from lamps + full summer sun makes the AC work harder and stay on much longer to cool the house.

My bill was cut in half when I changed the hours for lighting.

good luck
