1,000PPM Hard Water

Suddenly my water went from hard (300 PPM) to extremely hard (1,000 PPM).

I don't know what caused this change (it's well water), but its been holding steady between 900 and 1,000 for a good while now.

2 questions:

#1 - it seems obvious to me that this simply will not work. Even with the "hard water" solution from GH. Or am I wrong? Starting at 1,000 PPM would certainly give me no room to add nutes or even kill the plants on its own, right?

#2 - I have a R/O system, but it produces only 3 gallons per hour (I use it for drinking water only). Problem with that is the size of my hydro set up. Not only do I run an occasional MMJ crop, but I grow other things as well (various fruits and veggies). So I need a lot of water (sometimes hundreds of gallons if I have all systems running at the same time (DWC). My question is: are there any R/O systems out there meant for such applications? One that would produce far more water at a much faster rate?

BTW - tried the GE water filter they sell at Home Depot. It did absolutely nothing.

Have a water softener as well and whether I bypass it or not the PPM still reads the same.

At a loss

faster ro systems are merlin garden pro (or something like that). i get a gallon every 1 minute 20 seconds (30ppm) with 80 psi. or there are better ones that are capable of 1,500 gallons per day or like a gallon every 40-60 seconds. go to your hydro store and ask for a catalogue. look for water purification.

almost the same exact problems cissy. I had a huge spike in ppm from well water, and got a merlin garden pro and booster pump for cheap from a friend.

It's coming out at 150ppm now, I think I might need to at least change the carbon filter

If meter calibrated, it being well water, do you live in or near areas that are experiencing flooding?
We have that in my area. I am not on a well, but I know the aquifer that the wells pull from are going to be jacked for a long time to come.
If it maintains that high, you will need a water softener to protect your pipes and an RO machine for growing.
At 1000PPM I would only drink RO water. That level exceeds the safe drinking levels in the USA.

Wait, I am in a small town on the town water system. The town gets its water from the city well head so I guess I am on well water also. I also need a water softener as the normal tap is 650-700 PPM.

Get a RO system, my cities water is 300 ppm and that's crazy so 1000 your gonna run into problems eventually

At that high PPM, your going to have major scale building up in your pipes and you will be going through hot water heaters as they build up lime fast.
To save your house plumbing and appliances that use water, have a plumber install a water softener to help with that. Also have the plumber install a "whole house" water filter where your well line enters your home plumbing. The filter will trap a lot of larger particles and the water softener will help remove a lot of calcium. I bet the high numbers are due to excess calcium and other minerals dissolved in the water making it hard as hell water.
If it is field runoff, then it is probably high nitrates from fertilizers and you need a RO machine to get that out.
You can change the whole house filter when needed on your own as it is very simple.
I suggest you take a clean mason jar and take a water sample to a place that sells filtered water and water softeners so they can test it for you. Then you will know what is in the water and they will help you make decisions on how to fix it. Most places like that will test it for free.
YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR WELL if that is your only source of water for your home for your families safety.
