If you collect male clones right before they pollinate you can catch them at a point where the will finish opening while sitting in a cup of water. Trick is to collect within 2-3 days of pollen sacs opening. I don't consider it as risky as it sounds if you have seen enough males progress.

I have 5 phenotypes of the CB atm. So far I have a pure purple lemon, a lemon gingerish and the garlicky one. The other two are about 45 days in and both smell mostly of lemon or lime. I can see where one may end up more cherry than lemon though. We'll see.
