I don’t know which is better peroxide or bleach. If you are washing a lot of sprouts, the cost of peroxide would add up quickly as the concentration would need to be fairly high whereas you only need a couple drops of bleach for a gallon of water. Plus bleach kills much more unwanted organisms...

I’m also a ER RN...you ever had salmonella?? As far as I’m concerned, the little bit of time out of your day would def be worth it if you are at least a little concerned. And there are few other methods that work as well and aren’t destructive to the texture/pallatability of the sprout.

I’d say if you want to be sure to kill the salmonella on sprouts mix up a light bleach solution and soak the sprouts for 15 minutes. Then strain them out of the bleach and soak them in ice water for 5 minutes and throw them in a salad spinner.

I’ve always just use burlap strips. I’ve done some large scale grows when I was in school for my horticulture degrees using different medias. Burlap has the best bang for your buck and you can compost it. Don’t use nutrients, just water. The micros that you let grow a little longer than 4 or 5...
