Soil Food Web Gardening with Compost Teas

Depending on how hot the compost is, the nematodes may or may not survive. But it certainly wouldnt hurt; neither in terms of supplying your soil with beneficial microbes nor with controlling the amount of pests that may live in compost piles that you don't want going near your plants. Here...

You can buy them online. It's usually like $20 for several million nematodes. Once you have them, you can get them to multiple by putting them in some moist bedding, and putting meal worms in with them. They enter the meal worms, reproduce until the meal worm explodes and then exit. You...

I am surprised I have never come across this (specifically) before. I have bookmarked it, and will be reading it immediately. +Rep If anyone else is composting, and would like to get things moving a little faster. . . If it dries out, instead of just using water to moisten it...

Soil Food Web Gardening with Compost Teas

I am going to start breeding my own nematodes, and meal worms (to breed the nematodes), along with red wigglers. There's endless amounts of free manure around here. So I should always have enough food for the worm, so they can crank out endless castings. I'll probably compost whatever manure...

For people who say they don't want to compost, or would rather buy EWC. . . They make worm farms that could fit under your kitchen sink and allow you to (vermi)compost all your organic matter. If you mostly just want EWC for tea, you could probably produce enough in a small apartment to keep...

I wanted to mention a few things about Compost/Worm Teas, and beneficial microbes based on a book I recently read "Teaming with Microbes". But, I saw someone else already posted a nice summary, so I am going to quote them. I hope everyone finds the information useful.

Good info man. Sounds like his wasps will be fine with it. Do you recall what kind of wasps they were, I could look up their life span. In general though, I think they tend to wander away. Especially if there isn't food around for them. Which is good and bad news for you. EDIT: OP, I...

Saccharopolyspora spinosa kills some wasps (which also kill bud worms). You may want to see how OPs specific wasps react to this. AFAIK it only effects certain species of wasps.

Protek is the silica? What are you doing for Cal/Mag? Hopefully all those wasps killed all the nearby moth eggs. Did you notice anything with them, or just released them and hoped for the best? Been noticing any other pests? What did you end up doing with nematodes? Never tried keeping...

From my understanding moths lay eggs in the bud, the larvae hatch and get fat while they eat their way out of the bud. A lot of people say to spray as soon as they start budding, (I assume to get Bt in/on the bud so as soon as the larvae hatch inside, they eat it and die. As, eating Bt is the...
