My very first attempt at hydroponics/DWC.

Day: 1 Jun - 25 - 2010 Nutes: None except a cap full of superthrive Water PH: Unknown till I find a ph tester. Lights: 2x 100w replacement 2700k cfl's (1750 lumens each) and 2x 100w replacement 6500k cfl's (1600 lumens each) I started my DWC system today. It was a bit of a hassle getting all...

My very first attempt at hydroponics/DWC.

This is my first attempt at doing hydroponics of any sort and I'm using the DWC method. I'll be posting my progress to this thread rather than a journal cause I'll collect it all into one entry when I'm finished and just have a single journal entry for the entire grow. Any and all comments and...

upside down plants, any benefits or problems?

Sorry for my delay in answering, I was off for a few days. Anyway, as to the people saying it will grow upward. Why would it do that if I put the lights directly below the plant? Wouldn't the plant grow toward the light no matter where the light is in relation to the plant? I've never seen a...

don't want to buy a water ph test kit, will litmus paper work too?

I have one grow in soil and another about to start with DWC. I do have a soil ph probe that I got for free though so there's no problem there. I am mainly concerned with my DWC setup. I'm on a severe budget at the moment and everything I get has to be free or borrowed pretty much. I've...

don't want to buy a water ph test kit, will litmus paper work too?

I know they aren't that expensive but I just don't want to buy a ph test kit. I do have an unlimited supply of free litmus paper however so I figure I'll use that to do all my ph testing. I'd like to know if there is a reason every video I've seen suggests buying the test kit where you drop...

upside down plants, any benefits or problems?

I have one of those topsy turvy tomato planters that allows you to have tomatoes growing out of the top and bottom of one pot. I was wondering if growing a weed plant upside down would have any problems or benefits. Could large buds be a problem with weighing an upside down plants limbs down...

Awesome, thank you for your patience and for lending me your google skills which are obviously superior to my own. +rep for you.

substitute for rockwool? No hydroponics stores near me.

I only get hostile when insulted for no reason. You could have expressed the same sentiment without the insult like the guy who posted before you. And like I said, she's not cool with it growing, just with me smoking it.

substitute for rockwool? No hydroponics stores near me.

could I just germinate in a jiffy pellet and then carefully remove all of the jiffy crap by soaking in a cup of water for a moment then put the seedling directly into the clay pellets?

substitute for rockwool? No hydroponics stores near me.

So if I use polymer based sponges I should be fine? I don't have to worry about the smell or anything like that, she doesn't care that I smoke weed. She just doesn't want to have it growing in the same house she lives in cause she's paranoid like that. Plus there are plenty of methods to cut...

substitute for rockwool? No hydroponics stores near me.

I didn't search, but even if I had those really didn't help me much. I can't have hydro gear mailed to me without angering the police who lives with me. I have to sneak it in. So ordering online isn't an option. As for the jiffy pellets, those will fall apart in a DWC chamber will they not? If...

substitute for rockwool? No hydroponics stores near me.

I'm a very unfortunate being in that there are no stores near me which carry rockwool cubes or any other hydroponic gear for that matter. I'm attempting a DWC setup and have most of my materials collected but I'm unable to find ANY rockwool cubes or anybody that has even heard of rockwool...

Need help with lst. Pics needed.

That scrog method you mention looks interesting but doesn't look like it keeps the height of the plant down which is something I have to think about. I have limited space up and down for my plants to grow so lst is a great way to keep the height down. Thanks for the first link especially. That...

Need help with lst. Pics needed.

I'm not even close to ready to lst my plants yet, but I'm the kind of guy who likes to study and research things well in advance of actually needing the info. I'd love it if somebody could post pictures of how to lst the plant. What I need to see is the first lst as well as how subsequent lst's...

dont know what is wrong... help please....

I'm no expert on these issues, but I did notice two things you mentioned that could be contributing factors. You said ph was 6.8. I believe it's supposed to be between 5 and 6.0. You also mentioned the temps being in the high 80's. I'd be very careful with temp regulation cause anything over 90...

    My first indoor grow

Yeah, I got the humidity and temp issues under control now. Average temps of 71 - 75 degrees Fahrenheit and an average of 55 to 63% humidity, fluctuating throughout the day. This is noted in one of my journals.

    Buying seed online SAFE

PO Box is probably the least safe of all the various places you could send it. For one, when you sign up for the PO Box you have to give them valid identification which will have your address on it. Another option is to find an empty house somewhere near-by where you can check the mail daily. An...
