ok so here is my experience with this issue. i have two 400w in a 5ft by 2ft tent with both bulbs in their own cool tube. the tubes are attached inline and require a 640 cfm fan to cool the temps but cool they are indeed. i have a cmh and it is indeed very cool. The 400w is about 8-10 in from the top of my extreamly health one month old plants. and temps are only 75-77 and never get any higher. When the plants were seedlings i had the bulb that same 8 inches from them and they never once showed any sign of light...

got mine under a chm now 400w and they are very healthy bushes, cant wait to see some buds though. Im switching to 12/12 in a week, they are 1 month old and already have pistals everywhere!

using a cmh now temps at 12-14" from seedling tops are 75F, cool tube is cool to the touch after 18hrs of running!!!

i got some seedlings under a 400w cmh less than a week now since they broke ground and they are eight inches from the bulb with a temp on ground of 75 degrees F. CMH is so bad ass!
