I am going to store water in 30 gallon plastic garbage cans. My question is how long can water be sitting for until it is no longer fresh enough to be used to water my girls?

sorry, i will try to clarify. I am growing outdoor this year. It is about a 1 hr. hike to my spot off of dirt roads. there is no water source near by so i will have to hike all of my water in. My
