    Veg light Vero based

I bought the heatsink from an ebay seller a few years ago. It's 120mm wide by 36" long with 16 3/4" fins and about a 3/16" base. If I hadn't already owned it, I would have bought one from Heatsinkusa.com. It is actively cooled using 2 120mm fans mounted so they blow air right over each of the...

    Veg light Vero based

My clone light is sufficient for clones and seedlings. I just finished re-configuring my veg light to use 10 5000k Vero 18s driven by a Meanwell HLG-120H-C500A. The light is 36" long with 2 clusters of 5 Veros. It runs 137w full power which I only use in the final few weeks before moving to...

    Veg light Vero based

Both Digikey and Mouser ship worldwide for your Veros. As far as driver(s) go, you have choices. I am a fan of Meanwell HLG series dimmable drivers. I would recommend the HLG-80H-C700A. It's dimmable which is very nice when your plants are small and need less. Here's the spec. sheet

    That should work.

    CXA3070 DIY

The Vero 18 3500k at 700ma outputs ~2600 lumens. 15 of them makes ~39000 lumens. That's ~130 lumens/watt. Around 300w total for a light far better than a 400w HPS. I am using 15 Vero 18s over 2x3 ft. They are usually dimmed to about 500ma. I also run my light about 5" off the canopy and use...

    CXA3070 DIY

It looks like they sold the last one. I can't see the specs but it looks like a 30w 900ma driver. That should work just fine. I almost mentioned the possibility of using a 900ma driver in my last post. 900ma will make more light with a bit less efficiency.

    CXA3070 DIY

If you want to drive one Vero 18 at close to 700ma you can get a driver pretty cheap from China. I have never seen an ebay Chinese driver rated at 700ma but there are lots rated at 650ma. Like this one...

You're welcome. I'm a fan of the big heatsink idea but the both are good and effective. The Arctic 11 heatsink/fan is the lower cost option and requires less fabrication skill and with several of them you can move them around for better coverage. The downside is wiring can get messy. It...

    CXA3070 DIY

I use Vero 18 and drive them at 350ma for clones, mother and veg and 700ma for flowering. The reason for driving them soft is that they are most efficient at lower currents. If you want to drive 2 Vero 18s at 700ma, you would need a driver that is rated for ~60v. I understand how it is at...

That would depend on what kind and how many emitters you want to drive and how hard you want to drive them.

Then Meanwell HLG series is the best available and worth the $ IMO.

    Led driver dilemma

Most drivers have a bit of headroom voltage wise. So, if the rated output is 32v, the driver may not register a fault and go into 'hiccup' mode until it hits a higher than rated output. Sometimes they will work when pushing more than rated voltage but there is usually a cost in terms of amperage.

    Led driver dilemma

It would. Dimmable drivers are super nice because a plant's need for light varies over the growth cycle and dimming provides a way to match those needs. I have a Kill-A-Watt meter plugged into every light I built so I can see exactly how much power it uses and I also use a Apogee quantum light...

    Led driver dilemma

For a few dollars more you could have the best. You might consider the Meanwell HLG-185H-C1050B. >92% efficiency, dimmable, and it can drive from 3-5 CXA3070s at that efficiency. Check out the spec sheet...

    LED and seedlings.

I use 2 5000k Vero 13s driven at 300ma and mounted on a 4" x 12" cheap passively cooled heat sink for seedlings and cuttings. It uses 21.5 watts and is just right to cover a standard size seedling tray.

    XXXL hood with CXA3070

I try not to do journals for personal reasons but there are many photos of plants grown under Veros already posted here on RIU. That hood is a great idea! Coverage is really dependent on how much height you have to work with. The higher you go, the wider the footprint. Meanwell HLG series is...

    XXXL hood with CXA3070

That would work. You could go full cycle with 3500k. Many people do with 3000k.

    XXXL hood with CXA3070

I use Veros for everything. After playing around with various color temps I have settled on all 3500k for flower, all 5000k for clones, mother and veg. This is after spending more money than I'd like to admit experimenting with various color temps. Needless to say, now I have plenty of...

    V series "Tetras"

It's all aluminum. I had the shroud cut and bent to dimension by a local metal fab shop. It's whatever they make tanks of. If I remember right it's 6061.

    V series "Tetras"

That particular heat sink is what my flowering overhead light is built around. I bonded 3 lengths together to make a 13.8" wide sink. It does very well to cool 15 Vero 18s, 10 Cree XPLs, and 28 Luxeon ES deep reds (~360w) at 700ma. I have 2 120mm fans running a 1200rpm cooling the sink. It...
