Kapton tape works great. Even clear packing tape. Black electrical tape...weak sauce.

Why not use the mid-power strips instead of cobs? They are sooooo much easier to cool and spread the heat and light out. I have tried both and the strips rule. So check out the Samsung F strips or the EB strips. I think you'll be lots happier.

Im talking single sided. You are right for double sided. That goes between the strip and the sink.

The Scotch mounting tape only holds the strip to the sink. The back of the strip is in full contact with the heatsink. I am running EB ver. 1 strips at 75% of max. (1.05a) and it works great. About 1.5% voltage droop max.

The real test to see if you are dissipating enough heat using your tape mounted strips is to check voltage droop on your strips. BTW, cobs do need thermal grease, strips do not.

Yes. I am always trying different spacing and coverages, so all my builds are a "test." But, tape is all I have used. I must say using Kapton tape on white or silver sheet metal looks a little ghetto, but it works great. You don't need any thermal grease. Clear tape, like you have, should...

I noticed the gen 2 spec sheet did not specifically say it could be ran without a heatsink at test current...like the gen 1 can. So being as how you're going to be one of the first to play with them, please compare voltage droop without a heatsink on both boards. Inquiring minds want to know...
