    Soil pH

Making my own soil is half the fun. I buy one big bag of Ocean Forest for each grow, for the sterility, to start my seedlings. The rest gets mixed 50-50 with my compost and that fills a 10 gallon grow bag. Then the used Ocean Forest becomes part of my soil. One bag will do 2 grow bags.

    Soil pH

I use Fox Farms nutes. I always pH to 6.3. I generally start a new grow with 50% Ocean Forest. My seedlings couldn't take the fungal salad that has developed in my compost over the years. Once established in veg stage though, fungus becomes beneficial, as it is to all plant life..

    Soil pH

I make my own compost, and turn frequently. Have for years. Should be same pH throughout. Lots of well composted (two years) cow manure in there.

    Soil pH

I use Rapitest soil kit, and prepare my sample accordingly. One part soil to 5 parts distilled water. But it doesn't tell much. So I then stick my pH pen in the test water and read that.

Our understanding of old problems changes.

    shiny leaves?

I use 60x. There are no bugs.

    shiny leaves?

60x shows no bugs....just a stubstance that is sticky at first, then it dries.

    Soil pH

I've struggled with this. What is the best way?

    Soil pH

I had some plants in high pH soil recently. I had decided to grow without my usual FF nutes. I compost my own grow medium, which includes about one third composted cow manure, and lots of once used Fox Farms Ocean Forest, so why not save the $ and see if my soil was any good by itself...

    shiny leaves?

I have this condition right now myself. Don't know if it's the reason, but I found out halfway through my soil was 9.01 pH. I started loosing leaves bad when flowering began, and realized it was nutrient deficiency due to poor uptake capabilty in high alkaline soil. I was able to compensate by...

    Cutworms in my Compost?

I have from time to time come across cutworms while turning my compost, I would expect it outside. But last week after a harvest I found a glassey cutworm snuggled against the bottom of the grow bag. My question: Are cutworms only a threat to seedlings?

    Worms in Compost?

If I add worms to my compost, will I need to, or even be able to, remove them for planting? So, What's wrong (or right) about having worms in the grow medium?

    Miracle Gro in my compost

It’s still useable, if you’re worried about chelated salts, give the soil a good flush (3x the volume of the container), let it dry and do your amending. It’ll be fine. Thanks. I've got about 6 cu ft of it, and have a lot invested in it. And it would hurt if I had to throw it away.

    Miracle Gro in my compost

I always reuse my store bought potting soil after composting it. I add composted cow manure, wood ashes, and other stuff and let it compost. I feed strictly organic nutes. Until I ran out for a period recently. I had to finish a grow with miracle gro flowering formula which I had on hand. So, is...

    Continuous problem every run

My understanding is the plant redirects nutrients and energy to the flowers after switching to 12/12. I know yellowing in leaves is caused by the re-uptake of chlorophyll, so I leave them til they fall. As long as it always occurs low, I don't worry about it.

    Strange Mutation....

UPDATE: These plants are 50 days old today. I'm running out of room up top. I've got one singled out for topping, just gonna let it fill out a little more. Doesn't look like the early flowering slows down veg stage at all.

    Strange Mutation....

QUOTE.....out of maybe 50,000 feminized seeds you will get 3 or 4 that are stubbornly and completely male .... It would seem environmental factors could raise that number significantly. Remember, this conversation is about one feminized seed that flowered male, and the strange traits in his...

    Strange Mutation....

This isn't about the seeds I bought. It is about seeds I produced on my own.

    Strange Mutation....

I don't see my situation as a problem--I am thrilled with this experimentation. I am not complaining about this development.
