Yeah,it might look as if the sphere itself is creating the light true , but theres a 100% chance you'd try to wave about like a light sabre. You just would. Its science.

diy version of low profile led propagation fixture for small area?

Could you put a shopping list together and explain to a beginner how to make it? I know thats not a trival thing to ask , Ill understand if you pass.

diy version of low profile led propagation fixture for small area?

Ah, I though we had a 50w at 50% efficiency thereby creating 25 watts heat and 25 light.

    Are these any good??

This might give you some ideas. Square white plastic conduit could be used to move the heat away from the exhast holes (you only need one btw) . 4 inch conduit cut lengthwise so its a 2 1/2 inch deep gutter could be stuck to the wall behind the box going straight up in to the floor boards...

    Are these any good??

Its sucking air in by the bottom, but also in thru every crack in the box, in cluding any in the ceiling. Any hot air that goes out the holes hit up against the house wall, making that nice and warm, some of the the hot air slowly rises above your box, somegets sucked back in to the bottom...

    Are these any good??

so your fan is transporting air from the lower chamber to the upper , then it males its own way out. so why not get rid of the upper chamber, boom middle step removed? the fan is achieveing very little in terms of moving heat away from your grow area. it barely does that all all, right?

    Are these any good??

Move the extension lead sockets out side of the box altogether, they give off heat. Clear out everything from that little apartment except what nessacary. Personally Id remove the fan and celing and stick 2 pc fans in the two holes at the back. the extra height will be very handy. .

I wonder how a powerful laser beam would look in the sphere, like if you were in there waving it about like a light sabre. This is very well put... " Light rays incident on any point on the inner surface are, by multiple scattering reflections, distributed equally to all other points. The...

    Are these any good??

your 55w cfls only give out about 4000 lm (guessing) , so in theory you're increasing your watts by ~33% and total light by ~50%.

100lm/w @ 50 cents per watt. Hard to beat that with 40 bucks in your pocket.

diy version of low profile led propagation fixture for small area?

"A 2C/W heatsink would be good for a 50% efficient COB running at 25W ie 12.5W of dissipated heat." The other 12.5w of heat just stays in the fixture and slowly radiates away? We can increase the heatsink c/w but quickly hit diminishing returns. We can also improve things by removing heat from...

I think it doesn't mater, all light escaping the fixture hits the sphere and is measured.

Devil's advocate; they absolutely should be getting close to that or else they're wasting a lot of potential power by only drawinng 32 watts per cob. I mean from a business point of view its easier to sell a 250 watt light at, lets say 1.8ppf/w , than a 125 watt at 2.5 ppf/w at the same price...

Thanks very much for you help RB. Thanks for the link, very informative. I read that thread and happy to know someone else has worked it out treat as a black box. I'm eager now to get my hands on some components and start trying things out. Actually one question about that maths thread. The...

diy version of low profile led propagation fixture for small area?

I only want to veg under this light, so I should be fine right?. Im really interested in your ppf calculations.I have all the inputs except 54% efficiency and uMol/j for 4k spectrum, I cant see them on the datasheet? And the 110-120cm² surface per watt for passive cooling, is that a general...

diy version of low profile led propagation fixture for small area?

So I am going about this in the right way.Decide what leds you want, then choose a current that will give you the output/effeincy you need. Based on that get the minimum amount on driver to get the job done. Then I need to think about heat, right? Is there a reasonable way to estimate how much...
