Not really. Those Evo chips are efficient, but they also have a huge cyan gap. It is true that green and far red penetrate canopies, but for slightly different reasons. Green light is mostly reflected by leaves – it gets reflected into the lower canopy by the plant itself – although it also...

Hi mate, sorry for the delay. Yes you can wire the strips in parallel. I'll ask GLA to run some tests on them to check the voltage, but they are similar enough that we have seen them work without any apparent current hogging. In theory, the voltages should be the same, although the boards will...

Canada. That's all I can say. There should be enough info in what I've posted to get you on the right track.

    Led coatings

We use a modified silicon conformal coating that is not made in China. It sprays on very thin, sticks to silicon lens LEDS, doesn't grow mould or yellow, and we lose way less than 1% of light (tested on a goniometer). We tried a few different coatings before we found the one that worked best. I...

LED Constant voltage driver wiring question?

For a 24V/8A driver (192W - he says he'll run the XLG-240 at around 200W) the theoretical distribution of current will be: first connector gets 8A second connector gets 8A-0.8A=7.2A third connector gets 7.2A-0.8A=6.4A fourth gets 5.6A fifth gets 4.8A sixth gets 4A seventh gets 3.2A eighth gets...

Changed my driver to double the power but light doesn’t seem any brighter?

I would say you're right. You could use it as a standalone, but sunlight already has a lot of green and far red light (and UV, though glass blocks most of the UVB), so for supplmental light it makes sense to run the most efficient spectrum with 660nm monos and (probably) 5000K whites.

    LED diode expert?

That's right. You have 13 series circurts linked in parallel on that board, which is ostensibly a 54V panel. 3030 white phosphor diodes are usually considered to be around 3V each (typically 2.7-2.9V), so 18x 3V = 54V. Each LED will be maximum current rated to around 180-200mA, so that will be...

Changed my driver to double the power but light doesn’t seem any brighter?

What I'm saying is you can run them as hard as you want if you don't value lifespan or efficiency. In the case of Quantum Boards vs LED count, it really has nothing to do with the number of LEDs – they aren't the limiting factor in the QB648 – and everything to do with the size of the panels...

Looking for the best LED maker out now

Here's a PAR map showing the spread. The red outlines are the individal LED panels. This is over a 1.2x1.2m tent pulling about 640W from the wall (2x 400W drivers dimmed to 80%). For that particular grow, I ran the drivers a bit lower with an average PPFD of around 900-1000 (compared to 1128 got...

Just use two fixtures instead of one. Same price, more wattage, better spectrum and more flexibility. Sales pitch over.

    LED diode expert?

Each trace is actually a large square of copper which acts as its own heatsink, as you can see. There is an electrically insulative layer between the copper trace and aluminium PCB base, but the aluminium base does a good job at heasinking on its own. We also 2mm thick PCBs where most other...

Rolls Royce cars were so reliable at one point, that if you broke down anywhere in the world, they would send a helicopter with a team of mechanics out to fix your car. You get what you pay for. Sorry, I just said that :bigjoint:

Changed my driver to double the power but light doesn’t seem any brighter?

You are not going to get 280W out of each of those boards. I mean, you will, but they will run so hot that they will probably burn out after a short time. It could be days or weeks or possibly even a couple of months, but they will be heat stressed until the individual diodes start to drop out...

Looking for the best LED maker out now

Spider Farmer is absolutely full of shit. Let's look at just one of their models and the claims thay make. Outstanding heat disspation? So all that heat is supposed to come out the end of the bar . . . but then they put a plastic cap on it? In reality, this is a spurious claim, as heat...

    Leggy seedlings with led?

I would stll give them 20/4 or 18/6 at least. They are the two veg light cycles I run.

    Leggy seedlings with led?

If they are autos I would run them for 20/4.

PPFD is density of photons per square meter per second. For total photons you need to multiply by the area. Then divide those photons by the number of watts per second (= joules) and you have umol/j. That's what a goniometer and sphere do: they measure total output per second. Average PPFD x...

Looking for the best LED maker out now

A good example of how easy it is to achieve efficiency with just the combination of white phosphor 5000K (and some 3000K by the looks of it) and 660nm monos. But let's look a bit closer . . . This is what a high efficiency spectrum looks like. This translates to an average CCT of 4000K and...

LED Constant voltage driver wiring question?

I concur with @Rocket Soul . But if you must use that 24V driver, then I would suggest you wire the last strip in the chain back to the driver to feed the strip chain at both ends. That will reduce voltage drop, as well as high current over the connectors. Molex connectors usually have a rating...
