What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

I was reading that their surface temp is about 20 degrees higher than the back. The cobs are for in the greenhouse. It has high ceilings and in the spring we need supplemental lighting to get the garden plants started properly. EB strips need to be too close for spray watering the hundreds of...

Best of both worlds, full spectrum setup

Buy 3500k, 480w system. Then buy a 60w 6500k supplemental light and a 180w 2700k light as well. Fewer watts for veg because they need less and I'm not going to need the whole tent to veg 4 plants. Put them both on the same power supply with a switch to save more. Beats going with the expense of...

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

It is true that the cpu fans will keep it mid way between a Tc of 25C and Tc of 80C, so I assume the best you could achieve is a 5% gain in lumens over the fanned heatsinks if there's only a 10% difference from 25C-85C and you're already halfway. 117$ is enough for 4 big fan sinks too I guess...

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

This is neat. He uses mineral oil and sticks a pc fan straight in it.

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Ok, so I had an idea but I need some knowledge. Four of the new cxm 32 cobs (55$ each) would be about 220$ total and I could be run at like 160W each, toss in two 320W power supplies for a total of 527$ for 640W. 113$ to spare. If you can find a used car rad, cheapo cpu water blocks and an...

    Veg light upgrade question

They've made LED specific and sunlight specific par meters. Are you referring to something beyond that?

Is it possible to over cool COBs? Liquid cooling

Do tell about your light coverage. I like the look of your cobs and smd. So I'm unable to find those last gen heat sinks or any others, especially because I haven't researched them in the last decade. Do you have any suggestions? My only idea is to be a hawk for clearance sales on cpu sites.

    Veg light upgrade question

Is that a problem most people would have or just those in high humidity areas? I'm guessing that you'd just fan more if the exterior humidity was less than your target. Maybe just add co2 instead ;) allows for more humidity is what I read.

    Veg light upgrade question

Buying LEDs can be spending money to make money too...? If you're running more than 1KW of hps, you're going to save more in a 5 year period by going with LEDs. Now that blurple is almost done trashing the name of LED and full spectrum whites are a thing, it's a clear winner. When you factor in...

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Indeed, cheap and redundant is key. Strips are my main light source for sure. I'm still going to try to make a heatpipe out of copper pipe though, it'd be redundant and fun. I will eventually need to buy some cobs in my greenhouse where I don't want to block light with a ton of strips and have...

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Tecnilight.ca is an option, the guy was willing to work with me and offer a basic finished product for not too much money. Below he's working with me to make a 120w light. Does cobs and diodes.

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Philips and Osram are now joined. They're Canadian and hopefully I can avoid duties with them. From what I saw though, their leds aren't on level with bridgelux, luminus etc. Has anyone found otherwise or read any promising news? Last I read they're planning a bajillion dollar LED factory in...

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Do you know of a cheaper Canadian site? My issue is that digikey is duty paid in the listed price and others aren't. I'm not sure how to calculate the duty for them before ordering.

What size of COB is ideal for cost per watt?

Yes I'm aware and thankful for your input and I've tried researching a million variations of components to drive down cost. Worked out some that work for me and even ordered some. Now I'm just checking if someone else was brilliant and cut cost somewhere on cobs where I couldn't. I've thought of...
