"Area 51 LED" Information and discussion

@Eraserhead I've had some time to think things over and I owe you an apology for some of the comments that I've launched at you and Area51LED over the past year or so. Whether or not my comments held any merit, I shouldn't have made any rude or snarky remarks that belittled your character or...

The end of LED is nigh. Incandescent will rise again.

Last time I put my hand under one of my running cobs, I felt warmth.

    Low Efficency Comsumer LED Products

A few factors to consider would be the technology used and how efficient it is (total lumen output), size of heat sink (most are limited in size for consumer light bulbs, so heat build up to be considered), and optics used. Plus there is the drivers that are used. Great thread/discussion to...

    LED Companies w/ LINKS

I believe Tasty is the remaining cob-fixture company to build their fixtures from scrap, with everyone else getting their cases from China, including A51. A51 had a pre-order option the other day for a ~500$ unit. Had x4 CXB 3070 cobs in it I think, total wall consumption was like ~100W. I don't...

    LED Companies w/ LINKS

Lol yeah its a pretty common design. I get updates by email with new light sets and that one looked familiar, most others looking generic. You're right about case shapes being limited, as they only serve a limited purpose unless otherwise designed but every commercial fixture, whether using the...

I don't believe inhibition takes place until after 2 hours of far red after lights out, from what articles I've read, so I'd be curious if we could get away with 1 hour of far red after lights out.

Right, 5~15 minutes has shown to be effective but I'm just merely curious on what would happen if we left our 730nm lights on for even longer, not that it's necessary or anything.

I'd like to read where only 5~15min is needed of 730nm far red versus 30~60min at lights out. In other words, there's a popular belief that 5 minutes of 730nm is all our plants needs but which scientific/scholarley article claims such a notion? From my results, ~15 minutes after lights out seems...

You're going to want to find a smaller driver with a lower, wider range for your 5V cob UNLESS you run a few of them in series. You'd need like 6~7 of your 5V cobs to work with that floodlight driver but the current from the driver, if it's constant, may be an issue for your cobs in that it...
