Meh spectrum is overrated, the reason why hps kick arse is due to hps bulbs almost putting out double the lumens to the equivalent mh bulb. Intensity accept no substitutes.

I'd go with a forgiving medium like 75% perlite 25% vermi and use a simple nutes like Dutch master gold one. Just follow instructions, almost impossible to fuck up, just feed once a day. No need for ph/ppm meter, cheap with effective results.
