Heavy rain on South Coast too.

The Himalayas OTOH loved the rainy July and a few are even ahead of the pace the huge 15’ Tirah set in 2021 although they aren’t as beefy as those things were. All 7 plants are healthy as hell. Both areas are in the monsoon belt so I’m guessing they are conditioned to handle lots of rain better...

The Mazar-I-Sharif Afghans are facing fewer challenges. Three females and the second pic is the only male. Not sure what the yellow one’s problem is, it looks like Magnesium deficiency but I’ve been supplementing all watering with CalMag and the other plants aren’t doing this. Someone on IG...

Wet July meant Angry Afghans but Happy Himalayas for me. After fighting off the earwig infestation the Panjshir Valley Afghans were then beset with Septoria, probably made possible by the heavy rains. This is why they are plucked, I should have hit them earlier with copper spray. First one is...

Wet spring was great for earwigs, but hungry earwigs are not so great for the crop. Don’t like spraying pesticides. So made a canola oil/soy sauce trap for them and bagged about 20 of the rotten leaf chompers in one night -

Plants enjoying the sun, a couple grew a foot and a half last week - Afghans staying compact - Himalayas stretching away -

Plants finally starting to look like they are kicking into gear. But what they’d really like is less cloudy weather. Mazar-I-Sharif Afghani, Panjshiri Afghani, Dakshinkali Nepali Himalaya and Rasoli Indian Himalaya in that order. They all seem to be nitrogen whores and a couple want Cal-Mag...

I use a gallon pump sprayer. Dump a quart of 3% peroxide in, add 3 quarts of water, shake a couple times, pump it up and spray away. Best to apply when dry. I don’t spray every day but I do reapply after wet weather, which is frequent in the fall along the coast. It won’t stop it all, but it...

Yes, there’s no avoiding it entirely but it can be managed. I spray B.t.to control caterpillars when I see them, but also spray a light peroxide solution starting in September to control both botrytis and powdery mildew.

Plants finally went in the ground this weekend. Mazar- Panjshir - Rasoli - Dakshinkali - Also found two plants that had seeded in from last year’s crop. Moved them to existing spare holes. I have some idea what they are based on location and will see if expectations match reality.

Thinking I’ll put most of these in the ground after we get through the predicted mid-week chilly nights - although not the babies that were started late to replace seedlings that damped off, I’ll have to wait a couple more weeks for those to go out. First up we have the Battle of the Afghans...

Nah, I’m rough on seedlings so usually kill off any stunted weirdos when they are babies.

Finally have a full roster. Just need to string together some sunny days, otherwise might have to go past mid-month to put in the ground -

I too started April Fool’s. I used to start St. Patty’s Day but the plants would become rootbound in the keg cups before the ground was warm enough to plant in mid-May, so I’d have to transplant to a larger pot before going outside. My highly accurate bro science observations tell me that it...

Seeds coming along pretty well and some will go into cups today. The top group are from Rasol, Indian Himalaya - collected in 2019 and resided in my freezer for three years, which doesn’t seem to have bothered them. Gonna try to make some hand-rubbed Temple Balls out of them -

Nah, they are good as gold. They toss in extra freebies beyond what they officially advertise for me sometimes. Twice they’ve replaced seeds that wouldn’t pop for me, no questions asked. Even replaced an order that disappeared in the Royal Mail system without any questions, and wouldn’t even...

? These seeds were freebies and they were upfront from the beginning that someone mixed up the seeds from four different places.

Made some heel hash too, these are around 7 or 8 grams each. I was too aggressive sifting the Sholgar so it’s got too much green material in it, and it could’ve smoked smoother had I done it right. But the others came out pretty good taste, smokability and taste-wise -

Will start pre-soaking seeds in weak peroxide and water in a few minutes. In the meantime the annual winter windowsill plant abuse project continues into flower. It’s kind of neat to see the right kind of trichomes even on the leaves of this unknown Afghan that was a freebie (unknown because as...
