sometimes the runty ones are the killer pheno. u never know til u try. but generally if I pop a pack I'll just keep the healthiest few and toss the rest especially if they are fems.

buy a 4 pack of qb120s and a driver. it will be @ $150 and is a great easy first DIY build. no heatsinks needed, easy to rearrange. get in 3000k and u can flower under it too.. then get a Diablo when u have the money.

check out pheno.addicts IG. he recently tested a bunch of stuff on the purpl from flower to pollen to tobacco and compared w his lab test results. within 1-2%. I really want one but got some other stuff on the shopping list before I get to that.

don't worry about it too much, as the plant grows it should resolve itself. in general no you don't want leaves touching soil. if its still touching next time you need to water just lift or bend it out of the way. I would give the plant time to recover between each step of training. wait...

one other thing to note. if you are growing from seed (assuming they are not autoflowers) regardless of how long you veg, if you flip them to flower before they are showing signs of preflower and are sexually mature, you increase risk of stressing them out and having them herm.

I'd say for your first few grows don't worry about high yield. just get the hang of it and get the plants to finish and cure. It's also worth noting that every strain has different characteristics. some respond better to one type of training vs another. Some plants will top themselves and...

7.3 is fine in soil. dont stress the numbers like if you were using soilless medium or hydro.. more important to have good mineral content and microbial activity and they will take care of buffering. add some worm castings and/or beneficial bacteria.

tbh. if u are worried about it, the Hlg120 4 packs are $100 rn and with discount that makes it $90. those don't need heatsinks and can easily frame up with some 1/4 angle aluminum. i have way too many unused strips right now to justify buying them myself but recommend that setup a lot.

im too scared to run my boards or strips naked. i have them on a beefy heatsink that I sourced from a wholesale aluminum shop. tho i also wish i had just gotten individual ones for each board bc they are pretty heavy fixtures and like you said would allow for a lot more different layouts...
