I was thinking about switching from soil to coco, cause everybody was raving about it some years ago. I don't do it simply because I never run out of all of my nutes, there's always something left that makes me stick with my good old soil, cause I don't wanna throw nutes away, hehe. (:

If you mean setting a timer to 18/6 or 24/0 easier, then yes. There are pretty sure autos and photos which are difficult to cultivate. I'm not growing autos, so I assume there's not much different in the other half of the field. (:
