I think maybe start with some cfl's. it is a bit short to try and put a HPS in there. If aircooled then you can have it about 8-12" away from tops of plants. but you only have about 4 ft og height so if you allow 6in for light and reflector, then 8-12in from tops of plants. then 6-10 in high...

Your going to probably have problems keeping temps down with the HID in such a small space. with 4ft of room allow 6in. or so for bulb and reflector, then the plant tops need to be atleast 12inches away from light. if you have 1 or 2 gallon pots 6 in tall your only giving yourself about 2 foot...
