i think most people wait until there are a at least 3 nodes on a plant before they top/fim because it might cause too much stress and end up killing the little thing. i could be talking out my arse here though. but hey, if its worked all right and the plant survived then its all good.

Nice photos mate, buds are looking pretty healthy despite any problems your having with the fan leaves Take a photo with your loupe on the underside of your fan leaves and see if you can spot any critters there.
