I'd say not to cut anything off more than a week after you've flipped your lights. If you have a shoot that's out growing another during your transitional period I'd suggest attempting to supercrop.

I'm no expert but I feel like all of those buds look lacking. Could it be the led? I feel like they should be filled out more.

They just look like they need a little N. great looking otherwise.

Would it being brittle hint towards it not being mold?

I'm not sure but it seems similar to my experience. I recall a funky smell as well but the bud itself wound up fine for consumption.

I've seen underfed plants buds get like that in late flower. It's happened to me on a couple occasions to a couple of plants that had been neglected for one reason or another.

Yeah don't cut any off there. Those leaves are acting as solar panels. The more, the more energy the plant is taking in. Give a little LST to spread em' out a bit if anything.

I top as early as possible to I can have more developed locations to top later. Also the topped shoots are slightly lower and I find I have an easier time tying them down as such.

I think it's pretty impossible to determine since it's your first go at a plant. I'd recommend simplicity. Get to know what the plant wants. Every harvest will get better than the last.

How close are your 23w cfls exactly? They look super leggy. The little ones might just be runts of the liter while the rest are growing normally just stretching a ton. I had two runts this go around my self. Via training I eventually evened the canopy out.

I'm not 100% on this but I believe black strap is used to feed your benies in bloom and provide carbs. Cal-mag is used to provide Cal-mag. I'be never used black strap hence my general lack of definitive understanding. I have used tons of Cal-mag on coco runs however.

I use Botanicare Silica Blast periodically through the first month of bloom as a stalk strengthener and to raise PH and haven't ever had a negative effect. I give it regularly in veg as well.
