    Feminized Seeds- worth it?

Thinking about buying new beans- and because it's a bit of a drag to invest so much time to find the plants are male, was thinking feminized. I've heard conflicting info about hermies from feminized seeds- does this risk outweigh the benefits of the female seeds? Can one just remove the male...

    Tap root poll!

Seriously- plant them down. I also had read that you can plant up because the natural growth pattern of the root is to curl in on itself and point down. HOWEVER, when I did this, I ended up with the root sticking out and the seed dying. EVERY time I've planted down, I've started a successful...

    Superthrive? Good for all stages.

Great for starts, for sure. If you're replanting, Superthrive can assist with the plants establishing in their new environment. Don't use it during flowering, though. I've heard mixed reviews and some have indicated that it stimulates veg growth so isn't appropriate.

    6 weeks of cfl flowering

I should read. I see you answered that above. My bad. Are you using splitters or plug lights into a powerstrip to get that number of lights on the plant. How long did you veg the seed plants?

    6 weeks of cfl flowering

God- those look gorgeous and are pretty inspiring. I had to resort to CFLs after the HPS went too hot on me without the ability to vent properly. I can only hope that my 6 turn out to be girls and look like that. How many CFLs and how many plants do you have? Would love to get more info to try...

    NEWB setup

Not that I'm such a pro, but I keep the soil below the top of the pot because if the plants stretch for some reason, I can bury the stem deeper by just adding soil to the top later on. This provides extra stability for the plant as the plant roots along the stem. It's easier than repotting up...

    question on foxfarm products

I LOVE OceanForest. I've used it for a variety of seedlings and my current grow took off incredibly from seed. I had to repot from 4" up to 2 gallon bags in the first week (this is pretty incredible, actually- I've grown a number of plants from seed before and it usually takes at least 2 weeks...

    First Indoor Grow- Update

Very cheap on EBay, of all places! They come in various sizes- got 1 lb bags too, but they were pretty small and these girls grew like crazy from the moment they popped out of the seed. I think it's the Ocean Forest soil, actually. :) Thanks so much! My outdoor grow (the first) was...

    First Indoor Grow- Update

Note that they aren't yellowing at all, though it looks like it from the photos. They are vibrant green and the leaves are pert. I'm probably going to start LST this weekend or next depending on node growth. :blsmoke:

    First Indoor Grow- Update

Thanks to all who helped with my HPS light situation. I have now switched over to a safer combo of CFLs and the plants seem to be doing fine. Here are some photos of my first indoor grow with specs below: 3 Joint Doctor autoflower mix 3 Dutch Dope Fox Farm OceanForest amended with bat guano...

    Durn it- Hard Freeze question

Now in the 60s outside- plant seems okay with some leaves yellowing and slightly droopy. I flushed with molasses and water to see if it perks up. Not wilted- though the chili peppers are very wilted, so they didn't escape. Think I can let this go for another week or 1 1/2 weeks if temps stay...

    Durn it- Hard Freeze question

Last night, my area (NE) had a hard freeze :cuss:- our first of the season. I covered ALL my outdoor plants including the last MJ lady that I have going with garbage bags/tarp. It was a pretty significant freeze and all of them are still showing frost on them, including the MJ. Should I pull...

Help, my leaves are pointing UP!

Too wierd! I have 3 lowryders and 3 dutch dopes going and all THREE of the lowryders are doing the exact same thing with their little leaves standing up to the light. They're strong plants are are just doing what they can to orient to the light. Don't sweat it.

HID lights a fire hazard if left alone?

Well, I bought an HPS light and found that they get *extremely* hot. Alarmed, I did research and discovered that they can definitely be a fire hazard. They MUST be properly vented, they MUST not be on a circuit that might be overloaded. So yes, it is possible that they could be a fire hazard. If...

    When seeds dont open?

If you have a cable box that stays on all the time, that's usually a warm enough source. You probably overheated the seed. In the alternative, it's possible the seed wasn't viable (perhaps immature). Next time put the seeds in a wet paper towel wrapped in saran wrap on top of a source of gentle...

    is marijuana a

Yes, it is an annual- this means that it dies back and must be replanted from year to year (though if pollinated, it may go to seed and reseed itself as is common amongst annuals). It will not come up year after year and must be replanted.

    Many sprouts, first time growing

Congrats on the little sprouts- they're looking cute. They do look like they're stretching a bit. You will definitely need to replant them into some kind of pots or deeper containers because a) they will need more space to themselves to thrive, and b) apparently cannabis does better in deep...

    Please help! Germinating problems!

Rather than your fingers, I find that it's effective to use a chopstick or like implement to gently dislodge the soil around where you planted to check to see if there's growth. If the seed is doing it's job, you should be able to see if there's any growth that is just taking longer to break the...

the man who cannot sprout a single seed :(

That's good advice- some seeds are hard to crack (including vegetable seeds). A master gardener gave me advice to chip at the surface of the seeds with a nail file to crack the outside slightly and enable moisture to penetrate better. While I'm no pro at growing weed, I grow everything else...

    Craigslist postings?

My friend's contact totally flaked so I posted on CL for 420. Got a few responses, actually, but am slightly paranoid about meeting strangers since I used to get from friends before their source went AWOL. I did some Google research to see if there were any accounts of stings or anything like...
