Ok, i just recieved a brand spankin new 400w hps with a bat-wing hood, and it is not air cooled. Just trying to gather info before the first flower with it. So, I'm setup in a closet, 6hx4wx3d. Question is(are), How hot is this thing gonna get in a space that small? And do I need to come up with...

If ur just settin up for veg, I wouldn't use the hps. Hps emits high levels of the red light spectrum, which is primarily used during flowering. I'm currently running a similar setup as u, in a closet, but with TWO plants vegging under 8 100w cfl's. I'd either go cfl or flourescents for veg, if...

If my understanding is correct, a plant in the veg stage would use more of the BLUE spectrum. While a flowering plant would need more of the RED spectrum of light. Thus the Metal Halide(BLUE spectrum), is used more for vegetive growth, and High Preassure Sodium(RED spectrum) for flowering...
