The lamp should cool enough to re-strike within 10 to 15 minutes max. Your bulb needs to be digital ballast compatible. This may be your issue.

Once you strike a HID lamp, it needs to cool before it will re-strike. This might be why you had to plug it in multiple times (while the lamp cooled). Is the timer an Apollo? :( I hardly think the ballast is problematic.

I beg to differ. Butane being non polar, will extract fats, lipids and plant waxes that have no psychoactive effects. Being non polar it leaves the green behind. Winterizing with a polar solvent will polish the finest BHO.

If it fires sans timer then it's the timer not the ballast.

Wiring of the capacitor depends on HPS ballast type. Consult manufacturer recommendation. High reactance autotransformer ballasts are wired differently than a linear reactor ballast. Schematics should be available based on transformer part number.
