In my experience. The slower the proper cure is what bring out the better smells taste and burn. Properly cured bud should take at least 4 weeks. Anything less and your screwing yourself and other who are attempting to medicate. Just an opinion. Works great for me.

Just 2 cents here. After topping it should take about 5 days on a rugged plant for the 2 new shoots to start taking over. Make sure you remove entire stem from the old terminal. Leaving it long will result in much slower growth from the new tops.
