I haven't played with cfl's. After checking out your pix it looks like you may have the bulbs to close to the babies. Wouldn't want them to get roasted from the heat that those bulbs can put off, just a thought. Peace!!

Could also bend a few times to shorten it up some!! If you require going 2 -2.5ft down the plant, consider bending a few times at angles to keep it close to the plant. Like if you were using a tomato cage and wrap the plant around itself. Support will b needed but it will work and keep it...
