Pictures of your DIY lights - Post your pics!!!

I'd be interested to the see the HPS DE grid after running the bulb for a month or two as well, as I'm sure the testing was done with a brand new bulb. Intensity degradation is a non-issue for the most part with cobs the way that we are driving them.

So it looks like he's getting pretty similar light intensity to DE HPS (except in the center at 24", but the spread looks better for the most part with cobs), no IR and less heat from the cobs with better spectrum all while using almost 200 watts less power. If these were CXB3590s he'd probably...

Pictures of your DIY lights - Post your pics!!!

Alesh posted this today in another thread, presumably from the MW spec sheets. I'm gonna have to look for heat sinks on Craigs list now too. I'd love to find a good deal on some aluminum to use for other projects.

    My First DIY LED

If one was to error with either too much or not enough thermal paste, I think you're better to err on the side of too much paste. I've never heard of a cob frying because they had too much paste - I have seen a couple cases where cobs fried because of too little paste resulting in an air pocket...

I'd like to know the cost and a link on those heat sinks too - they look bulky enough to handle a few watts passively. Also, how does a 50k pot vs 100k pot on a single driver affect dimming? Can you only dim 50%?

It's a 36" wide x 18" deep cabinet with painted white walls, so most of the light will reflect off the walls and to the plants anyways. Reflectors might shorten the distance the light has to travel before being reflected. After putting some thought into it though, I think I'm better without...

    Area 51 - W90 Info Thread

Cool, nice to see other members who brew as well as grow. I've been slacking off on brewing during the hot NorCal summer, but once it cools off I'll be brewing a bunch to resupply the beer pipeline. It's too hard to chill the wort when the garage temp is 100 and the tap water temp is 85 degrees...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

I was tired of my inconsistency with cloning, and the time it was taking to root, and the fact that you can't tell if a clone is rooted or not in coco, so I was going to build a DIY aerocloner today (I built a DIY bubble cloner before, but wasn't that thrilled with it). I still had the pump and...

Ah, OK.Don't know much about reflectors. If you do add them, let me know what you went with/how you mounted them. I'm intrigued by the idea of adding some reflectors to my setup, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it in my small grow space.

I got my Veros from Digikey - they should also have the ezmates too (they come in several different lengths and guages, although I didn't use them, I soldered). I got my driver from Mouser since Digi doesn't have Meanwells for some reason. Not sure why you need a cob holder though, for Veros...

    Mandala Seeds- Chill Om

I'm looking forward to seeing your Optic in action, I love the Vero's I'm running. I'm in the same boat as you for growing in the cool weather ahead - my garage can get down into the 30's on a cold night, so I'm going to have to come up with a way to keep my cabinet warm and still keep the RH in...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

Cool - I started brewing back in college in the mid 90s, but quit after I graduated, and got back into it about 5 years ago. About 3 years ago I built a DIY electric brewery with a PID controller to control temps in the HLT and a PWM circuit to regulate power to the boil kettle. It's pretty...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

Yeah, they are a couple old AMD heatsinks that I drilled and tapped with a M3.5 tap, and mounted the cobs with Arctic Silver thermal paste and M3.5 screws. I think I got the tap and screws on Amazon - the tap is a cheapo tap, but it works OK as long as you are very careful. If you feel any...

Good luck with the build - post some pics when you get it done, it's always fun to check out other people's work.

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

My veg cabinet is a hodge podge of clones that I'm getting ready for the seed run. I've even temporarily converted the upright freezer in my garage into a cloning chamber (normally it's a temp controlled fermentation chamber for my homebrewed beer, but I won't be brewing anything until the...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

After about 48 hours drying in the garage with RH ranging between 25 and 50%, the bud is pretty much dry. It's in the jar, and the hygrometers are at around 61% for both strains. The final weights are about 61 grams for the Fire OG, and 57 grams of Satori after mold losses. That's about 118...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

I haven't done an exact measurement, but the temp increase is pretty minimal. The way I have the cooling set up, the exhaust fan on the top of the cabinet blows outwards, pulling air across the top of the heatsink, so most of the heat from the heatsink gets pulled straight out of the cabinet. I...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

I picked up one of these LED light strips at Home Depot last weekend for my winter indoor lettuce and spinach garden. We grew lettuce outdoors last winter, but had to deal with slugs, aphids, birds, and every other damn creature that wanted to eat the lettuce for us, so this year I'm growing...

I'm running 3 Vero 29s 3000k (plus 6 blue mono leds) on a HLG-120H-C1050, but like Canadian1 mentioned on the last page the driver will work great with 4 Vero 29s too. My space is similar in size (around 4 sq ft), and I've been pretty happy with the setup. If I were to build it over again, I'd...

Vero 18s, 29s and a cabinet full of stanky goodness

If possible I'll try to get a cut off the GG and BD before I start the seed run, so I can make some seeds with them later. I would like to have strain specific seeds from those two to hold onto if I can work it out somehow. I was surprised by the mold, since Northern CA is pretty dry this time...
