I've popped seeds that were 4-5 year old. Don't soak them in water or use the paper towel method though. I used a Rapid Rooter ($18 for 50 of them on amazon) and just put the seed directly into that. Fill a small rubbermaid container with a small layer of water and sit the Rapid Rooters inside...

And I agree with @Eugenios anything with balls, pitch it. You're going to need to deep clean your grow area too before you start anymore plants.

No point in growing if you only get 3oz per plant? Really? For someone that is growing their own personal and/or has limitations in their setup, how is 3oz a waste? Just because you transplant and get big yields doesnt mean someone is a fool or wasting time that doesnt follow the same process...
