Fresh rain water? I use to collect rain water also. If it sits around too long, it becomes quite acidic and full of pathogens like Pseudomonas or Pythium, which can infect plants, causing root rot or other diseases.

Have you flushed the soil at all? Im willing to bet the soil PH is way off, salt build ups from the liquid ferts.

I can honestly say that in my case, that was not a factor. The fan did not hit the purple plant directly, ever. Thanks for the tip though. It isn't something that I have considered or observed. Would an oscillating fan prevent this from being an issue?
