I've tried it a few times with buds in small lunch bags and it works fine. But you have to let the buds get back to room temp before you break them up or they are more powdery. The buds seemed to have more flavor and smell. give it a try on a few buds.

getting back to the house electric, you can buy a cheap tester you plug in an outlet and it will show if the hot and neutral are reversed. If so it may even leak voltage back in when the unit is turned off.
