they are true 200w lamps. they do kick out a lot of heat but it is manageable. i've never used hps so i can't compare.

yeah i got a fright when i got my first one! they really are huge. you'd probably be best using one of each the whole way through but i've vegged with 2700k and got good results so you'd maybe get better yield with 2 red lamps.

i'm guessing you are talking about true 200w cfl's. along the lines of...plug and grow lamps thats what i'm using and i love them. how big is your box though? they put out alot more heat than some people may lead you to believe. remember the ballast is connected to the light so you cant sit it...

400w of cfl isnt going to keep your bills down compared with 250 hps!

the 26w spiral cfl is the only light there you should be using. you want around 6500k blue spectrum light not literally blue coloured light.
