Lots of bulk activated carbon on ebay, no link needed. Yes I do have a paint shaker to get all of it in the the filter sacks. Every carbon filter I have has a bag inside.
Nice one.
Do you refill using the full (4mm) pellets or break them down in any way before refilling?

What kind of activitied carbon do filters normally come with? Curious about the type of filling in the longer lasting filters..

Thanks!

Almost everyone I’ve taken apart had pellets.
no I do not bust them up.
I’m no pro, it was just something that worked for me. Good luck

I've been interested in refilling my ACI 6*16" filter and your comments boost confidence in going the diy route. "Reduce. Reuse. Recycle."

Thinking a mix of pellets and broken pieces would fill in crevices well, making for a longer lasting product? I don't have a paint shaker, is it necessary? Was planning on using a wide mouth funnel and filling smaller loads at a time..

Thank you for sharing your experience, greatly appreciated :weed:

So there was a guy in LA for a while who would buy and sell charcoal filters. He would stick the whole filter into boiling water and reactivate the charcoal. Those 4/6” filters would fit in a large stock pot no problem.

I don’t really think it’s necessary. And if I had my choice, I would use the crushed activated carbon because there’s more surface area but I think it’s a bit more expensive.
AND during your purchase it might be beneficial to tell the shipper to wrap it or box it up. That way no eyebrows are raised
