Thanks very much for the info. Ive seen those boards before but never in use.
If i can get a shot at trying this ill try to update you.
Roots: uva and blue is very rootstimulating and my guess is that ir also contributes.
Id love a little more info on this. Do you have pics? What was your base lighting underneath those supplements? I put some ir boards on an old build for a friend, only to later realize that he didnt have the amps to run all the supplements so never able to see those results.
If it gave you such...
My working hypothesis about the red end and the blu/uv end of the spectrum is that you want them to be sloping downwards, a bit like you see in sunlight. And that you want at least as much red <650nm as you have above. The vipar already has this on the red side, the mars not so much: big 660...
Tbh just some 400nm already changes the way it smells. Try to add some uv together with whatever reds your light is missing, that way you dont up your blue levels too much which can act against yield.
Where to get it? Try just googling uv led 3535 cree and look for links, even aliexpress could...
I would definitely advice to add some uv and "mess around" a bit while breeding: if youre not triggering uv mediated responses in your breeding runs you dont know if youre missing out on phenos which would have more distinct smells under uv/violet.
I got some stuff on the P-word, used to be a pet peeve of mine. Its very poorly defined; usually people mean how for down in into the cannopy you get decent sized buds, at least to my understanding. But afaik this has a lot to do with cannopy management and how you prune bud sites and sucker...
Id be somewhat careful basing your grow on those red/green/blue studies. Theres a lot of them but the only real reason theyre around as a 400-500/500-600/600-700nm thingie is due to the amount of research being done with old RGB mono diodes. This approach has been shown to be somewhat misstaken...
Short answer is yes, but be careful. You need to match its wattage and spread really well to your main light; dim down mains and you need to have a way to remove some incandescent. You can do this with dimmable halogen spots aswell if you want more control and less watts per spot.
The spectrum...
I would defo try to use some kind of sinking tbh, even if just some 3mm alu sheeting.
Maybe 40-50w with no sink and some airflow? Get a ir thermometer and measure the back of the board. +50C is too high for myself.
If i understand the study correctly: nor output nor total watts of uv light; measured uv intensity at cannopy level.
Nice study but a lot to chew thru, and some rather strange stuff: like no mention of what light or spectrum they use for wither main light or uv (though ratios; but uvr8 gene uvb...
Inknow what youre getting at but the plant responds to blue light in relation to the rest of the spectrum: turning up your light wont change those levels only total intensity. Generally in studies increasing 450nm blue light have sometimes given a bit higher thc % but only as an effect of...
Studies seems to indicate uvb, specifically around 280nm but its almost impossible to get that without getting a bunch of uvc which will mess with the plant bigtime.
In practice ive seen people do it both with 285nm leds (very expensive and low output) and uvb flouro tubes; but the pure uvb...
I disagree but only a bit; ive seen better trichomes over standard led growlight with uva only myself but it doesnt seem to translate to higher thc numbers in tests in most studies. Also uvb can be very extreme for the plant, you want some uva to strengthen the plant a bit to be able to take the...
