These critters do like certain strains. From what I've seen they love OG strains and normally stay off the GG crosses I have. I'm thinking it might be due to the stickiness and scents of certain strains.

Yes, having fewer plants in bigger pots is a lot better + less work with almost the same yield as having a whole room full.
