Anyone else ever experienced ( what I’m going to call ) shy roots? Where they just don’t want to enter into your nutrient solution

Yep, chlorine in abundant amount could do this too. Very fast rhizotoxicity. I am actually trying to grow bud in NFT. My first run, many issues (unresolved aluminium intoxication for 2,5 months). Then I applied SiO2 as an aluminium treatment, but that made a huge mess in my growing tubes. The...

Anyone else ever experienced ( what I’m going to call ) shy roots? Where they just don’t want to enter into your nutrient solution

I had exact the same issue in NFT. Mine issue was all about water contamination with aluminium and other toxic metals. Do you use everything plastic/rubber/stainless steel? There is no reason for roots not growing into water unless something is killing them.

    NFT issues...I`m clueless

Yeah...general rules. I have already figured it out. Heavy metal poisoning... dont ask me how. Sometimes I look smart, but make dumb mistakes. Source of poisoning is out and so are the roots out of net pots. In just 1 day majority of plants has roots growing into the water. Case closed.

    NFT issues...I`m clueless

Hi fellow growers, After many succesfull Flood and Drain cycles I have decided to move forward into NFT hydroponics. Especially Growstream by GHE (terra aquatica). Unfortunately, here ends my enthusiasm. I have encountered many issues. My first batch of clones died bc of stem rot, so I decided...

    Drowning plants :(

The roots are not drinking the water yet + stress from transplanting = wilting the first few days. Basically that's why a high humidity is a must - plants drink water through the leaves. If you have it outdoors - cover it by some plastic with few holes. If you have it indoors, buy yourself an...

    ppm rising in flower

It is normal. Some strains are using less nutes prior to harvest. Dilute it and keep going. It could also be a root problem, but if roots look healthy, it would be the first case.

    Considering giving hydro another go

Guys, have you ever tried "pythium oligandrum" as the bennies?

    Autopots

I have been using them for about 2 years. Great results, but terrible maintenance. But it is foolproof system.

How long does it take for Chlorine to evaporate?

Well, I got new observations, but first I have to respond to all of you. -Chlorine can react with amonia nitrates (urea) and make chloramine instead. This is clear and we also know, that chloramine is less reactive than free chlorine. ORP should read this reactiveness. Yes, many factors could...

How long does it take for Chlorine to evaporate?

I just started to make some experiments with Calcium Hypochlorite to keep my res clean and dead (sterile). I bought ORP meter which should reveal the oxidation (killing) potential of the water. I tried different measures in different times. The goal is to find out how often and what dosage we...

    Those running a sterile system

Have you ever tried H2O2 stabilized by silver? https://www.growell.co.uk/pest-control-plant-health/disease-control/silver-bullet-roots.html If it stays in the res tank for 5 weeks as they say, it could be much more efficient. The biggest question is - will the silver be properly flushed from the...

    Those running a sterile system

I suppose that GFF is working. My statement could be wrong if the GFF is not working.

    Those running a sterile system

I tried GFF this run and guess what - root rot just few days after transplanting new clones. I also tries to add a lot more GFF to kill that root rot. Then I made a research and found that Bacillus in GFF is working against Pythium. That is OK unless you have other type of root rot. In my case...

    Those running a sterile system

Which one you check with your kit? Total chlorine or free chlorine? Free chlorine can react with amonium nitrates and make combined chlorine which is not as sterilizing as free chlorine, but you can have it up to 20ppm. I bought ORP meter few days ago and now I am testing what it reads when...
